Hello,
After reading and searching still nothing to help me with this problem. I encode 2-pass DivX 502Pro and MP3 audio using vdub. When I play the movie the sound is smooth but now and then the video will pause a frame (that is you see a still frame while the audio is going) for about a half second and then continue. Other times the video will seem like its going faster for a second or so and then back to normal. All while the audio is smooth and you NEVER get to see actual out-of-sync audio (that is people moving their mounths but sound coming later). This is not predictable which tells me there is no defect at that particular timcode of the encoded movie. Sounds like some times it catches up to the audio by fast-forwardgin the video and some times it pauses the video until the audio catches up? Anyone seen this? Thanks you people.
The cource is my Sony PC5 cam but just for a test I did a DVD backup and get same exact results.

Possibly your CPU is overloaded? what DivX5 Pro settings are you using (b-frames, GMC, Qpel)? b-frames is the only one that should be used. also, check your audio interleave settings (ctrl+I in Vdub, should be preload=500ms, interval=1 or 2 frames). have you tried other media players? could be a simple player issue.

It might also be a post-processing setting. You could try replaying the same segments, but turning all post-processing settings off or to minimum. (Start...Programs...DivX...Divx Pro Codec...Decoder Configuration.)

Thanks guys, I am seeing the same problem on both computers which are P3-933 and during playback utilization is at around %40 so I suppose CPU is not the problem. Also I downloaded sample movies from divx.com to make sure its not me and they exibit the same problem. Playing the movies with WMP produces the same results.
Interestingly I encoded one clip with no audio and that one plays just fine. Then I said it must be the mp3 audio encoding so I encoded another clip with PCA audio. That one however played just like the rest - with freezes. I am out of ideas?

Sounds like a system malfunction on your part. Maybe you should try reinstalling the DivX codec, but I doubt that's the problem. Could be hardware related also, do you have newest drivers for your soundcard? Otherwise maybe format c:? ;)

So Acaila,
I know this is obvious but are you saying that you can play a DivX file and never see what I am describing - that is occasional frame freeze to catch up with audio may be?
Thanks

Yes, my videos play just fine and fluently. No catching-up for either video or audio anywhere. Could be that my system is just fast enough to play anything I throw at it too :D. But seriously, what you are describing should not happen for anyone unless there is something wrong with either their OS installation, hardware or DivX installation.

Something is wrong with your sound card driver.
Change the sound card, or get yourself a new driver, or change the OS.

Ok I have a suspect. My sound is Creative Soundblaster Live Value. When the creative drivers are used the problem exists, when I use the default auto-detect driver then it works. ANyone with Sound Blaster Live Value? Have you notived any problems playing divx5 movies?

FYI: removing SB Live Value drivers and letting w2k detect and install its default built-in support for SB Live fixed the problem. Go figure. Still would love to hear from someone with same sound card and simmilar issues.

Yes, found people on the net and Creative also confirmed that they do not support SB Live on SMP systems. So their suggestion is either run their sound card on a single processor system, SMP but use W2K generic driver or SMP and XP with their driver. So there will not be an SMP W2K support.
I just had a bad luck with my dual P3 system and W2K
