Hello all,

I'm trying to do a very simple thing:

Create 3 cd images from a dvd to create 3 vcd discs.
Although I change the number of cd's used to 3 I still only get 2 cd images.
I'm using standard 'vcd-settings'.

I'm assuming that if I where to achieve this then the vcd's would be non compliant as the video bit rate would be in excess of 1500kbit/sec

Many thanks.:D

My guess is that in the Bitrate tab (bottom row)
the setting for max bitrate and max average bitrate is set to 1150?
If this is the case you have to change it to
higher numbers of your liking.

if you aim for a bitrate around 1500 then set it for 1600.
Since you are doing xvcd the best setting for you depends on the standalone it'll be played on.
I use something around 2300.
max higher than average of course :)

What is probably happening is that you are running out of video before you are running out of discs.

At VCD standard of 1150 Video and 224 Audio to fit onto 3 800 mb cd's your movie will have to be almost 4 hours long, actually 236 minutes.

If you raise your bitrates you can cause many unexpected issues. The biggest is does your DVD player handle out of spec VCD's? The second is you will need to manually adjust the mux rate in BBmpeg (I found this out the hard way).

If you want to raise your bitrate and your DVD player can handle SVCD's then change to make them.

Thanks for your quick reply fella's!

The reason I ask the question is that I've been backing up (to vcd ) a small collection of dvd's, to be played on a pioneer 646d.

The quality of most of the movies ( using tmpgenc, cbr, highest quality ) has been great! It's only when doing a film that's considerably longer than 1hr 30.
Go past the 2hr 30 point and I've find the quality very poor.

I tried the old work round of conning the player into thinking it's a vcd when actually it's an svcd. The pioneer played the disc, but, at the screen resolution of a vcd ( the video only filled half my screen ! )

Now for some experimenting !:(
