I'm still burning 2 audio + 2 subs with these settings:

max bitrate = 2530
audio 1 = 128 kbit
audio 2 = 128 kbit
sub 1 = 5 kbit (this is a guess, anyone know how much it is?)
sub 2 = 5 kbit

= 2796 kbit > 2756 kbit

My standalone DVD has no problems with playback of these SVCDs.

But how do I know that the max standard bitrate for SVCDs really has been exceeded? Is it in somewhere in the log files? All I've found is

Min. bitrate: 300
Max. bitrate: 2530
Avg. Bitrate: 2230

I mean, CCE still could have used less since I'm doing 4 VBR runs so I did not necessarily generate an xSVCD?!

Since you are not playing all of those streams at the same time you are still below the SVCD standard.

If you want to see the bitrate used use Bitrate viewer.

I am pretty sure you will find that the actual bitrate is higher then you selected. CCE and TMPG usually go over the bitrate selected in spikes. It's normal for these programs.

The best way to test you DVD player for what it will do is use a combo of CBR, a chapter and a CDRW. Just keep making SVCD's with higher and higher bitrate settings. My Apex can easily play 5000 Kbit video and 224 Audio.

BTW 128 Kbit audio is aweful low. If you are worried about compatibility then this is where you should be looking first. Many DVD players have issues with audio below 160 Kbit. Most will use at least 192 audio.
