Hi, I have a Philips DVD 723 player. I create a lot of VCDs, SVCDs and CVDs and my player plays well everything (with FF RW and so on).

I tried to create a SVCD with MONOAURAL sound.
Well, my player plays it very well. I was surprised of that.
I tried to play it also using Power DVD but it didn't play the sound.

Does anybody know if SVCD with MONO audio are (or not) standard compilant? What about JOINT STEREO?

Thanks

you should never use mono audio, instand, use the joint-stereo(which use almost the same bitrate as the mono track) or dual-mono/dual-channel(for 2 or 4 languages audio tracks) to get better play back support.

Ok, I use it only when I capture from my HAUPPAGE WIN TV GO which does it in mono only.

It's a waste of space duplicate the channel in 128 kbs (false)stereo instead of 64 kbs mono.

64k may be to low for some player. Use 96k or 112k Joint-Stereo instand and the soound quality will be definitive better.
PS.: use j-stereo on a mono source will increase the bitrate less than 0.2% in compare to mono-encoding for the same quality.
