Hi All,
I believe this is my first post at Doom9...Great site...
here is my problem..:confused::confused:
I cap Cable TV in MPG2 @ 720x480 / 44khz
I want to burn onto a DVD and evidently, I need to "author" it first as well as upsample the audio.(im only used to Nero and SVCD)
Can someone tell me the easiest way to demux the stream, upsample the audio and get it on a DVD with the minimum hassle???
Can I do this w/o re-encoding the entire stream??
I am not used to all the mp? and vobs..
I dont need any special chapters or anything...Just trying to get DVD type quality on my TV captures....
thx

to demux the video from the audio, use the MPEG Tools option in TMPGenc, that will give you a .m2v and a .mp2.
to resample the audio (and encode to .ac3) i think besweet (1.4) will do it for you in one hit.
then you drop the new ac3 and the .m2v into the authoring program of your choice.

I will look into Besweet.. like I said, I am new and only looking to do a small fraction of what you all do here at Doom9.
2 more quick questions and I will be on my way....
what does "transcoding" the mp2 into AC3 do for me??
and
could I get a recomendation on an easy authoring tool for a beginner??
thx

I have an ATI AIW 8500 that I capture with in MMC7.7.0.1 and that program allows me to capture audio at 48khz (which is DVD compliant) and if you can capture in 48khz straight then dvdit PE will convert it to Dolby Digital. This is not the best solution but (I) have found it to be the easiest, just capture and insert clip and create dvd folder, then burn. No transcoding or downsampling.

you are going to need to convert the audio from 44.1khz to 48khz, to put it onto a dvd, with besweet im pretty sure you can tell it to take the .mp2 44.1 file, and upsample it to 48khz and encode it to ac3, all in the one command. if im wrong, dspguru will be in here to correct me ;)

dvd_maniac-
I currently have a TV2000XP from Leadtek. The only 2 capturing programs I have are the Winfast PVR app(Leadtek) and PowerVCR. to my knowledge, I can only get 44khz audio out of either one of those apps. I am using WDM drivers, so I am a little constrained in what I can play with, although I am looking into other avenues..ie DVD_Workshop,MyDVD, etc. the optimum solution is to capture in 720x480 @48Khz and be done with it....but I like the online PVR/Tvguide capabilities of PowerVCR..If it only captured at 48Khz I would be set.

I have heard some good stuff about DVD_Workshop. I am not sure of its capturing capabilities. It says it captures using both VFW and WDM drivers....Maybe it could be my all in one program once I figure it out.....I already have downloaded the trial....I will give it a shot since it looks like I will be recording 3-4 shows and burning them to DVD...would help to have chapters/menus....
I will still give Besweet a shot for the 2 programs I already have tho....You know anything about AC3mechanic?? a front end for Besweet?? looks pretty simplified and at this point, that is what I am looking for....
thx for the help

input : pick your mp2 file.
channels mode : stereo.
ssrc. set sampling rate to : 48000.
ac3 encoding bitrate : whatever you like !
then click on "give me ac3!"
Cheers,

well..after running the Mpeg thru TMPenc, guess what...
seems that PowerVCR records the audio at 48000 hz in DVD recording mode. Man..I feel like an idiot...
I guess I can move right into the authoring stage then....hmmm..the age-old question of what authoring program to use.....
thx
