Could someone explain this to me as I have not found exactly the answer to my question in the forums.
If you take a 29.97 movie marked progressive and use force film to get 23.97, then after re compressing use pulldown to get you back to 29.97. Does it matter whether pulldown is set to odd or even fields or do you have to set pulldown to the field order of the original movie?.
Does the same apply if the movie is not marked progressive?
If you do not set the field order in pulldown does it use a default value (odd or even) or does it know what the setting was in the original movie?

You should repulldown the video the same as the original to get best results. No, it will not know the setting of the original movie, especially if you encoded the video with the opposite field order. You should always (if you can) encode the video with the same field order as the original, progressive or not.
