DVD to .avi to work in premier

I need to get parts of different movies off a DVD as an .avi file, but one that Adobe Premier will recognise. I also need the sound as well, preferably in .wav format so that i can then edit what i have and out put it to DV. I have tried many different programmes but to no avail! Any ideas?!?
