Hi ^_^
First question is; Can i add subs onto the "black box" part of a widescreen movie. I can already guess that i cant without making the black box part of the video itself, if so, how can i do this, and is it worth it?
My second question is; How can i add more subtitle fonts (also where can i get them) to SSA.
Last question is; If i am encoding ( dvd --> xvid 2pass ) and am using a seperate file for the subs (.ssa + vdub filter) do i have to have the subs in the first pass? or can i put them in the second ONLY?
-thanx

You can add black borders I think from within the resize filter in virtualdub. It shouldn't hurt the compression too badly, just make sure the ammount of pixels you add is a multiple of 16, or something like that.
About the fonts, I assume you are asking how to use more in your actual script? Before the body of the script, you should notice a tag saying
[V4 Styles]
Style: Default,Arial,14,16777215,65535,65535,-2147483640,0,0,1,2,0,2,1,1,10,0,0
All you do is add a new "Style:" with a different font name in place of Arial, and give it a different name besides Default.
Then whenever you want to use it in your script, you change the lines style from Default to whatever you named your new style.
You should use the subs in both passes. If you need to make small changes or something to the script after the first pass, it probably wouldnt be necessary to do the first pass again though.

Sry phrased the question kinda bad, what i meant to ask was, how can i add MORE than the fonts that i see in current SSA ver, ones that are not on the list, cause there are only like 20 or so there, and most of em suck :P And i've seen plenty of different ones on other fansubs, that are NOT on the list of possible. So, what i need is more ^_^ where and how do i get them plz :)
I'll test out the letter box thing and see how it effects it.
Also, was wondering what would happen if i added the subs into the second pass, without adding it into the first :) just curious ^_^.

Just search the internet for free fonts. Theres lots of sites out there with lots of fonts for free.
If you add the subs in the 2nd pass, then it will just not make the video at the best quality, because they will screw up the bitrate curve.
