Widescreen Problems

Hey, im new to this stuff. Ive got a few Sopranos DVDS and would like to rip them. Ive managed to rip them using DVD Decrypter, but i cannot figure out how to encode them still in widescreen mode. It squishes the picture to makeit come out as the regular tv shape.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi-

I haven't worked with The Sopranos, and you didn't say if these are the NTSC or the PAL version DVDs. According to IMDB (http://us.imdb.com/DVD?0141842), the NTSC version is Anamorphic Widescreed (16:9), and the PAL versions are Pan and Scan (4:3). So, if I were you, I'd use Gordian Knot for cropping and resizing. You tick the appropriate boxes (NTSC or PAL, and 16:9 or 4:3), and cut the black bars and resize to your chosen resolution, and you can't go wrong. My guess is that you are working with the PAL Pan and Scan version, and you won't get widescreen from that (and, as you said, if you try to do it, you'll get squashed people). They gave you an inferior DVD when compared to the NTSC version.
