I have some SMallville episodes that were released as SVCD and they fit one episode on one CD. What i want to do is possibly lower the quality so i can fit two or maybe three episodes onto the CD as either DIVX, Xvid, or MPG. Which codec would result in a smaller file? I only plan on watching them on my computer, not the TV btw.

Converting to DivX should give a smaller file size without losing too much quality. (if any)

Reencode and lower the resolution. Use a codec that you like (Xvid, Divx ;-) , DivX, RealMedia...). I do not recommend MPEG 1 for this purpose.
