View Full Version : Remuxing loses audio

I apologise if this is a real newbie question, but I haven't seen the answer anywhere.

I followed the guide on transcoding using tmpgenc. What was odd to me, though, was that although I had split out the audio stream into a separate .ac3 file, there was no further reference to the audio file in the discussion on remuxing the .m2v file with ifoedit. So I was not surprised when my final vob files had no audio.

So, my question is, after demuxing the audio with DVD2AVI, and transcoding the video stream with TMPGenc, how do I get the audio stream file remuxed back into the video?

Which guide is that? When referencing a guide, please tell us where you got it, there are many guides out there.

To answer the question, though. You don't need to create an ac3 file if you intend to only re-encode video and mux it back in with IfoEdit. IfoEdit will take an m2v and mux it into an existing vob, replacing the video in it with that from the m2v file.

I'm using the Doom 9 guides. I used the DVD2AVI guide to create the project file, the TMPGenc transcode guide for transcoding, and the DVD->DVD5 guide for remuxing (step 6).

Assuming what you say is corrct, I'm still confused. The TMPGenc guide specifically says selecting video only, so there is no audio in the resulting mpeg2 file. After remuxing that according to the instructions in step 6 of the DVD-DVD5 guide, there was no audio in the resulting VOB file.

Because there is no explicit mention of this, it seems like it should be happening automagically, but it didn't for me...
