Hi guys... please help someone
I am trying to reencode a PAL DVD using DVD2AVI, Vfapi and CCE - as per the guide on this site.
I followed the guide of using dvd2avi for an NTSC disk to create D2V project, vfapi to create AVI wrapper then reencode using CCE - with success
When i open the PAL disk in DVD2AVI is says framerate 25fps and progressive type... no matter what settings i try i cannot get the film right. after saving the D2v and creating the AVI using vfapi the film length is too long... for example the "From Hell" AVI says the film length is 2hrs 20mins... whilst viewing the original dvd and the demuxed Ac3 file it should be about 1hr 57 mins
ive tried all the settings in DVD2AVI - is there some kind of pulldown i need to do after?
any help appreciated

As you can see 2h20min/1h57min~29.97/25. Source and encoded video have equal number of frames. It is impossible to convert NTSC DVD to PAL DVD in such a way. Way of converting depends on source DVD (i mean - film content or pure interlaced).

thanks for replying Valent
i still don't understand. i tried another PAL disk as per the guide and it worked fine.
i decided to to try and reenocde "from hell" with rempeg instead but i know theres problems with that.
if you can please try and explain what the problem is in more detail
thanks

Maybe i don't understand you correctly. What is your source DVD - NTSC or PAL? I thought that you want to convert system from NTSC to PAL. Is it correct?

the disk is a PAL.. i am trying to reencode it to make it fit on a dvdr using CCE as opposed to the rempeg way. (its about 5.5gb for movie and sound)
i followed the cce guide and sure enough dvd2avi reports the film as being progressive 25fps... i then save the project and create the wrapper using vfapi codec but i get the problem of the oversized movie (ive tried all settings in dvd2avi to no avail)
the strange thing is i did exactly the same thing with another PAL disk and it worked fine
i have now managed to reencode using rempeg but im still interesed in learning new ways and what the problems are - i am still a newbie to decent ripping methods
after reading some of the excellent docs on the doom9 site i now understand about telecine and 23/29 fps and forced film etc - but didnt realise we have the same problems with PAL disks
if you have time to help further u can buzz me on icq 53183173 - if not thanks anyway

OK, now i see that i didn't understand you. If two movies have fps=25 but different length, then the number of the frames must be different. You wrote that the length of the original movie is 1h 57min (7020sec). The number of the frames - 7020*25=175500. Check up what do you have after DVD2AVI. Maybe it is strange, but i have no ICQ installed, sorry.

i ran out of hard drive space so had to delete the original rip - i managed to reencode with rempeg and its come out really good quality
thanks very much for your help valent - if i have the same problem i will post again and make sure i have all the required information
