When I open my vob with DVD2AVI I have much wider aspect ratio
than when I open the same vob with mpc player.
My rip has the same AR as when watching the vob with mpc.
So now I'm not sure if I have the right AR.

So in general what is the best way to check that my rip and the original has the same aspect ratio when no covers are available to
be refered to?

I believe DVD2AVI doesn't apply the aspect ratio to the video. You just need to pay attention to the aspect ratio DVD2AVI reports. (in preview or save project modes it should say in the progress/info window that pops up) It is usually very obvious when the aspect ratio is off, circles are not circles and such.

Actually all I need to know is if DVD2AVI can play the vob with correct AR or not so I know that I can use/not use it aftervards to double check that I have used right croping/resize/resolution to have original AR after the black boarders are removed. For now I guess I just have to try to find a frame that will give me the truth.
For this movie right AR is propobly 1.74:1 and not 1.85:1.

Hi-

DVD2AVI just shows the video as it is on the DVD. It's your player that does the resizing. While DVD2AVI gives you the correct DAR (as Asmodian said), don't expect it to show you the proper movie AR.

Your movie is almost certainly not 1.74:1. To get the correct crop-resize, I'd suggest Gordian Knot.

Thanks manono for clearing things up.
When I earlier wrote about AR I propobly used it in somewhat wrong
context. It's good to know that DVD2AVI plays exactly as it is.
The thing why I thought it might be 1.74:1 is because someone had came to that conclusion for region 2 version:

>The transform on the DVD was window-boxed, probably to avoid loosing >image information when watched on a television (because of the TVs >overscan)

Propobly I got everything right at the first time when used gknot
to create crop-resize part for my avisynth script.
