Hi all, I'm trying to encode an AVI file to MPEG2 using Virtualdub to frameserve to DVD2SVCD and using CCE as the encoder. Everything starts off fine but after about four hrs or so of encoding CCE
give me the following error message "can.t close file XXXXXXXX. Invalid handler" Does anyone know just what this error is? An help I can get will be greatly appriciated.
Running XP on a 1.2 gig Athlon processer. 1gig of pc133 memory. Via chipset

your process should continue running fine, just click ok and it should finish w/out any errors...the only problem is that from the time that error message starts till the time that you click "ok" nothing happens...but it will finish

Hi hoozdapimp. the first time I got that error I did click OK and it continued encoding but the error came back in about an hr. How many times can that error happen? What causes it and what can I do to get rid of it. Thanks for your help! It is greatly appriciated

labersack mentioned something about making .avi files read/write instead of ready only. Not sure if this applies to this situtation or not. Worth a shot.

i don't think the issue is with priveleges (sp?)...anywho...i read that post by labersack and it didn't fix the problem when i had it...the weird thing was that it came for me at most twice in one encoding session...most of the time it never happens and sometimes it happens once...the weird thing about it is that it always happens at either 25,50 or 75% EXACTLY...i don't know what is so special about those numbers but it seems to be at every 1/4 of the way thru.

HI all,
Tried it again last night and this time it happened tree times! It has me really pissed off right now. Curiously, if I use DVD2Svcd to do a dvd rip and comvert it works with now problems at all, seems to only happen when I'm converting an AVI file.

do you happen to remember at what percentages it froze at?

I'm really not to sure about it but I thing it was at about 75% each time it gave me the error. I'm trying it again right now and if it hppens again I will right down the exact error code it gives me! thanks again for the help

Sounds to me like there is something funny in that AVI.
Did you check it in Vdub for any errors?
Try converting it from whatever format it is to another.
IE. if Divx 3, make it Divx 4 etc...

Trying a completely different AVI file now, only about 10% complete but so far no problems. Will let everyine know how it worked out as soon as it's done or as soon as it's gives me the error message again.

Is your AVI file with an AC3 audio? I had gotten a stargate episode that was AC3 audio and tried my best to convert it. It would stall in CCE and TMPGEnc. I also tried by hand, demuxing the AC3 and converting it to wav, then remuxing the wav to the avi. I also tried seperating it, by setting it to direct stream copy and no audio. Etc... To no avail, it would keep giving me a problem. Finally, I had to turn around and encode it again using divx5.0.2 and it worked in the end. This gave a slight quality loss, but not much. Just a small bit, because each time you compress you lose quality. Just set your bitrate around 3000+ and send it through. It's extra work, but if you are wanting an SVCD you have to try it.
(Note, if you have NTFS and a large amount of space, you can probably try Huffy codec. This will result in a less of a quality loss.)

Hi All,
While got the same error code with the new AVI file, the error code is below:
Fexp_Close()Failed: ***Could not close the file <D:DVD2SCD folder\Encoded_Video_CCE_NTSC.MPV
The Handle is invalid
[windows error code: 0x6 6]
Anyone know what this error code ia about. Got 50% thru the encoding process when it happens. The encoding process started back up when I concelled the error message but my encoding speed drop from .850 to .322, it going to take another 9 hours at this new encoding speed.
Many thanks to everyine that helping me out here. Great board to be a memeber of.

your speed drop is not actually right...it's because cce calculates how much video it's encoded by the time it has been running...so even though it sits there idle between the time the error message comes up and the time you click ok, it still counts that time. so your average will be worse, but it won't spend any longer because it had to stall
btw, you got it at 50% you said...i honestly believe this shouldn't be a hard bug to fix...it only happens at 1/4 intervals as i have said before, so there's gotta be some special command that is run during these intervals that causes the program to stall like that. im not sure if it's dvd2svcd or cce.
my only solution as of now is to make a macro (in c++ or java or vb or whatever) that clicks the spacebar every minute or so so that the error message will go away.

Please advise how you frameserve from Virtual Dub to DVD2SVCD??
I tried the normal way of frameserving with Virtual Dub and creating
a 1.vdr file (which always works direct to TMPGEnc or CCE), but DVD2SVCD (in AVI to SVCD mode) would not recognise it.. :(
I'm all ears......Thanks in advance

I donīt think that this error can be easily fixed. Iīm quite sure that it depends on cce and not on dvd2svcd, since dvd2svcd waits during the cce process. It also happens, when cce goes from one pass to the next. So i hardly believe that this can be simply fixed (except such a makro, you mentioned).

d'oh...i can't believe i didn't realize that it crashed while switching to the next pass...seems kinda obvious now. so yeah, it must be a bug with cce...my only solution now would to do cbr or make that macro that i mentioned above to press spacebar every minute or so. or maybe other versions of cce work better? i always use 2.5

Have you tried using safe mode?
This will serve with VFAPI.
You can use either CCE 2.50, 2.62 and some get 2.64 to work with safe mode.
It will be slower so don't be alarmed.

hi all, I am using CCE 2.5 and I've found that if I encode a small file (under 25 megs) it works fine but the 700 meg files I'm trying to do all have this proplem. Encoding the file now using Procoder but really want to get CCE to work. If I try using CCE 2.66 do I have to frameserve or wil it handle a 700 meg file on it's own?

CCE v2.66 is not directly supported by DVD2SVCD yet, from what I've read, and from what limited testing I've done myself. You'll still have to frameserve if you want to use it. However, if you use Link2, your encoding time will still be slower than v2.5, but it won't be as bad.

UltimateDBZ and the others here interested in CCE 2.66. I just tested it and it WILL NOT work currently in DVD2SVCD. If you use the same method to get the other versions of CCE to work then it still won't save the ECL files which are a must for DVD2SVCD to work.
There is no way around this.
@ravenew in the future please try to be a little more descriptive in your title of the post. Maybe Invalid Handler error with DVD2SVCD would have given us more info to know what this is about. We try to get everyone to do this. Imagine 2 months from now you do a search and all the tiles say "error with DVD2SVCD". How in the world would you know which one is like what you are having a problem with?

Hi all
Mark I will try and do ao better job of tittling my post in the future. Just finished encoding the AVI file suing Procoder, 21 hours! Another reason why I would love to get CCE running. Will be making another attemp with CCE tonight! Thanks one and all for the help everyone's been giving me!
