View Full Version : DTS Wave Editing

Hi all!
First, sorry if it has been discussed yet.
I used VOBRator 0.2b to demux the DVD "Eagles - Hell freezes over" (I know, thatīs the favourite album here to discuss ;) ) and created dts-waves from each single Vob. My stand alone DVD-Player plays the DTS-CD created with Nero. No problem.
But: I found no way to EDIT the dts-waves like a normal wave. Does anyone know how to do that?
I thought maybe only the dts chip inside the player can decode the dts-wav. Right?
regards, Wolfgang
P.S.: BeSure/BeSweet can NOT create single mono-waves from a dts track. Tried it several times. It only works with ac3.

can you please explain how did you convert the extracted dts file into wav-dts ?

Vobrator has a checkbox for 'save as dts wav'.

Yep. Itīs very easy and it works.
A idea could be to cut the vobs before extracting the dts wav. Iīll try ChopperXP today.

I'm curious if it is possible to decode the dts soundfile to some mono multichannel waves or whatever. If we can make dts from waves, can we make the revers process?

i don't understand how it works.
yes, vobrator will create a wave-dts file, but its sample-rate is 48khz, while you can only burn 44.1khz wave to audio-cd.
don't know about nero, but usually, burning software will resample the track into 44.1khz before burning it, and in the case the payload is data and not true samples, the resampling process should end up with garbage.

Yes, i forgot it too. I only saw the dts logo flashing up at my DVD player and thought īyeah, it works!ī. I went to 2 friends to test it becaus i have not a 5.1 amplifier yet. No sound was heard. Afterward i downloaded a test sample at Minnetonka (http://www.minnetonkaaudio.com/Soundfiles/Fire__VooDoo_Studio_30_sec.wav) (right mouse - save as), this is 44.1 khz and this worked at my friends players.
At the moment i am waiting that one of my friends going online to test a 48khz--->44.1khz downsampled (SSRC) dts-wav from "hell freezes over" which was generated by VOBRator.

Sure, but how can i find the right cut points if i canīt hear anything? Without a dts-chip you only hear noise...

playback the regular dts on windvd, write yourself the timestampts, use BeSplit.
it would also be nice if you could post your timestamps (or logfile).

Ok, i will post if it was successful. But note, at a PC you cannot hear a dts sound.... and the pcm has a different lengh.

you can play a dts file with windvd (or was it powerdvd?), and the timestamp would be exactly the same as the pcm one.

Well, HERE (http://members.aon.at/~wkronth1/wave_Complete.cue) you can download a cue sheet created with the CD Wave Editor. But notice: This is not from the beginning of the pcm, the cutted pcm began right when the eagles appears at the stage. You have to synch with your cutted wave.
And there is a bonus song at the dts stream at the end.
DSP, is it difficult to handle the dts stream like the ac3 stream? Otherwise a extension to BeSure would be great.

Sorry. I mean, is it difficult to extract the 6 mono waves from a dts stream like you did it already with a ac3-stream with BeSure/BeSweet? I know, ac3 and dts are compressed at a different way. But i think, Music will be mostly done with a dts-stream, because dts is a higher quality standard than ac3 is.
And what else than music is worth comverting it to a dts-cd?

To solve the problem of dividing each wav-dts file after why don't you try to use Smart ripper to extract each chapter instead of each vob file ???
I tried with a Sting Dvd live and it works, i have now 19 ac3 tracks that correspond to 19 chapter/songs in the dvd.
A think is easy.
Anyone has tried to create a DolbyDigital audio cd or dts audio cd
starting from an original cd ripped in wave files ???
I tried using both CoolEdit and BeSweet but if i create myself the six channels it works fine in my dvd player, meanwhile if i use BeSweet to create six mono channels it doesn't work because i only can obtain 6 wave files that sound at double speed and are half the wavelength of the original, why ????
Maybe i use and incorrect .dll version ? I don't think so.....
Looking for some help....

Idea is good. I donīt know smartripper, but it sounds logical. But what to do afterwards if you only have a dts stream and no ac3? I havenīt found a tool yet. Even VOBrator does not resample the dts-wav. And that is needed.

I'd actually be interested to know what, if any, practical use there is for the save as dts wav option in Vobrator.

Tried Powerdvd xp multichannel 4.0, and with ripped gladiator with only dts soundtrack on it, and it worked!, I have only a stereo sound blaster 128 sound card. I will try out another possibility to decode dts sound to the harddisk in multichannel format this weekend.
