I know there is a good reason for it, I just can't see it. I tried it the other day but well.... It's not great for resizing dvds to svcd that's for sure. So, with that in mind, when will/is pointresize a good resize algo to use?

Just a few uses I personally have had for it:
- Upscaling to see artifacts (better than vdub, since it can do >4 times upscaling).
- For a bad interlaced clip i used:vid=avisource()
chroma=vid.verticalreduceby2().pointresize(vid.width,vid.height)
mergechroma(chroma)
- For completeness, and my personal inner peace. :)

heh, must have been bugging you for a while!
p.s. it's good!
so, what is left on the resize workplan? i remember tr barry was hinting he wanted to fundamentally redo bicubic more or less from scratch?

I personally doesn't have any resize workplan, it's very fast, very stable and very well tested. But combining the two passes is something we've talked about.
However, I'm currently working on 2.1, with float samples and YV12 support, and I find this a bit more important. However anyone else is free to take up the challenge.
