Hi
I'm going slightly mad... :(
After weeks of reading newsgroups, faqs and testing, now I try to ask someone else.
I have problems with the playback of AVI's with AC3 Dolby Digital sound. First my configurations/methodes:
- ripping DVD with Smartripper or CladDVD (mostly Smartripper)
- converting to DivX 5.02 with Flask Expert 3.0 while using direct stream copy to demux the AC3 audio data.
- Mux with NanDUB/VirtualDUB AC3
- Playback with WinDVD 4.0 (purchased version)
Video: 25fps PAL with 720x576 dots, using 2-pass mode at 1500 kbit, keyframe every 25 frames
Audio: original .AC3 data file with 5.1, mostly at 448kbit
If I try to play the AVI, I get mostly no sound. Sometimes, depending on the version of the mpgaudio.ax or the iviaudio.ax I get a stereo sound. But never a Dolby Digital signal on my external Denon AVR-1600RD receiver.
If I play the DVD or the vob files form harddisk, it works even fine if I play the .AC3 file alone.
I tryed out many versions of the filters and much interleave settings but nothing works.
For the output I'm using a SB !Live 5.1 (CT4830) with coaxial, or a Terratec Sixpac 5.1 with optical connection. The problem is the same.
I'm using XPpro and also try a new and clean installation for the tests.
I have absolutly no idea..... HELP! :)
thx,
Tux

- Playback with WinDVD 4.0 (purchased version)
Did you also try Windows Mediaplayer?

Hi Link!
Thanks for the replay.
Yes. I also tried PowerDVD 4.0, DivX Player, PowerDIVX and GDIVX. :(
WinDVD is the only one wich can play the DVD in Dolby Digital and Stereo without greater problems. And I prefer it because it's IMHO the only player with an available remote control.

first: I donīt have a multi-channel receiver on my own! So you have to make sure that you selected the right input mode (I even donīt know if this exists :D )
second: I meant windows mediaplayer 6.4 (WMP6.4 = The one which is delivered with windows).
third: As I see you already registered the audiofilter-package from the doom9 downloadpage so there canīt be the mistake.
As Iīm not an expert at this topic I donīt know what you could do further. Sorry! :(

The connection is correct. It works fine with DVD, .vob files from HD or .ac3 audio files.
I'm speaking about the WMP too. But my Version is 8.0 (XP)
I have allways reged the filters correct. I checked ist with graphedit.
Thanks for helping. The next thing I want to try is to use an other receiver.

in XP :Start->Run, mplayer2 will start the old wmp 6.4. The newer playes sometimes have problems playing avi-s with ac3 tracks.

Hello,
I had the same problem. I was looking for convenient iviaudio.ax filters but I did'n find one without problems - when I enabled 5.1 speaker output (in iviaudio.ax menu) the whole audio spectrum was moved to the right front channel. (it was maybe problem of my soundcard)
Since I'm using SB Live! or SB Audigy, which have their own DD decoder, I found such a version if iviaudio.ax, which allows me to enable digital output. Then I enable "decode dolby degital" on my sound card and the an amazing 5.1 sound is going from my computer.
another tip: try use another filter than iviaudio.ax. I saw one here in "audio" thread
Hope it will help you.

@yoghurdyn
he wants to put out the undecoded stream
an not to do the work by the soundcard itself

Try other filters than the iviaudio.ax (you'll need to use another player than WinDVD for this because I think WinDVD always uses its own iviaudio.ax filter).
I'm quite happy with the Moonlight Odio Dekoda which is able to decode 5.1 AC3 to 4-channel surround on my system. It's also supposed to work for digital-out of 5.1 channels.
Download the Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder v. 2.0 Beta (http://moonlight.co.il/download/index.shtml?dl=mpeg2decoder). You'll only need to register the following to make it work (the register.bat from Elecard registers some more filters that I have no use for):
regsvr32 /s mpgdec.ax
regsvr32 /s mpeg2dmx.ax
regsvr32 /s mlcom.ax
There's another free AC3 decoder filter around with a hell of a lot of options and settings, but I don't know what it's called anymore.
Also make sure you change Mplayer to use WaveOUT instead of DirectSoundOUT (with the reg files from Doom9's download page).

well..the only filter that would pass through spdif
to my abit ua-11 usb soundcard is this one:
http://xvalex.hotbox.ru/programs/ac3filter/
none of the others would work..
so give this a try!
( i still haven't figured out why no other filter don't work..=(..)
perhaps they ain't suited for external soundcards?....anybody out there who might have an idea?....

Hi!
Thank you all. I tried all your hints but nothing could help me! :(
I think we can close this here. I fear it can be my antique 3-years-old reciever. I try this out later.
I have got an DVD writer yesterday. :D Now I have no need to make such rips. Now I want to make DVD's! :p
Ok, thanks again!
Tux
P.S.: harcan, the link ist broken! Do you have an other one? For a last try?

Tux, I was having the same problem, I was frustrated and becoming mad, since Iīve been trying to get my AC3 DivX files to send the DD 5.1 digital stream to my Yamaha RX-V630 receiver without any success.
So I dl the AC3 filter Harcan suggested then I ran the ac3speaker.exe file that comes in the installation package and setted to mono output and checked SPDIF. Then I took a look at my receiver and it finally detected the stream ! ! ! I almost cried of happiness :)
Try it out man, worked for me.
I have a Sound Blaster 2 Audigy Platinum the one with the front panel, I connected an optical SPDIF cable to the front panel (optical out) and to the back of my receiver (optical in) .
Well thatīs it!
Good luck.
Now Iīm a happy man.... hehehe

i am having a problem with the AC3 Filter 0.54b. The center channel is always at a very low volume, I tried busting the level but that didn't work too well

@DJ Alik
The center channel is always at a very low volume
With different movies? Is it the same with other ac3 decoders (intervideo)?
I tried busting the level but that didn't work too well
Does it work at all?
@Tux
Some people have troubles with my hosting :(, so now I'm moving it to sourceforge.
