I'm confused about the "top field first" setting in CCE. If you have extracted a VOB using DVD2AVI "Forced Film" and are setting the "Progressive" flag and ZigZag scanning order, does the Top Field flag matter? Or is it completely irrelevent?

1. Use bitrate viewer to check whether a vob is top field first.

2. CCE always encodes using top field first, whether you check upper field first or not. Never select upper field first in CCE (it's explained in previous posts if you want to know why).

3. If you get a bottom field first source then CCE will still encode with top field first, but you can correct this after the fact using pulldown or Darim Easy Changer to process the video stream. (Again this is covered in previous posts).

leos_janacek you are correct in your assumptions. If your source is progressive then there are no fields, so the field order setting makes no difference. As long as you used forced film correctly in dvd2avi (source was at least %95 film) than you can pretty much ignore the field order in your encoder.

Just to repeat what's been said, if your source is progressive (forced film or IVTC) the top field first check box doesn't matter.

However, Checking it does affect your video by shifting it down one pixel. Why does this matter? It doesn't, unless your trying to set your letterbox along the 16x16 macroblock boundries.
