View Full Version : Moonlight Odio Decoder

Hey all,
I recently put togehter a new system (dual Althlon MP 2000+ on a tiger mpx board) and to my delight actually got 5.1 dd playback for 5.1 dvd's using the intervideo codec on my live! 5.1 gamer. For some reason though, the intervideo wouldn't do 5.1 divx... called creative (they do have a help number instead of their lame a$$ online help if you look hard) and they said that the 5.1 series isn't supported on acpi multiprocessor boards. I decided to try a few other codecs and voila! the Odio codec got 5.1 passthrough working to my receiver. B**W Me creative, you s**k. However, I'm still running into a problem as both mp3 and ac3 tracks use the odio decoder. Every time there is a large burst of video data (keyframes, camera pans)the audio jumps a bit, and sometimes replays milisecond bits. Not a big deal, but in films where 5.1 is worthwile this jumping thing is rather annoying. I can reinstall another mp3 codec and that should get rid of the moonlight for mp3, but does anybody know a way to fix this? I could remux every 5.1 movie I have I suppose with different interleave and/or preloading values, but I almost think this is a buffer issue and could just up the amount of memory allocated to passing the audio stream. Any thoughts?

Yes, my thought is that there is no need and no room for obscene language here...

Facinating, though I completely respect doom9's rules with regard to profanity and obscene language I must admit I'm rather shocked that a member would be sensitive/callous enough to point such a thing out, especially when they have nothing else of value to say. Further, I've always felt that that particular rule is more aimed at stopping senseless insult-oriented threads than it is aimed at extremely disgruntled users who have spent money (foolishly sometimes) mislabeled, mis-documnted hardware. Maybe its me, but if a company tells me that I have to buy a new $150 product just because I built a more intense machine then they were ready for, and they don't tell you that in the documentation, then I think they deserve a little profanity. But then, I sense the possibility for this thread to become the aforementioned pit of insult slinging mayhem, and so in the interest of ux-3's sensitivities (and apparent aspirations as a moderator) off I go to edit my evil profanity.

ux-3 is a respected, veteran, user.
i'm sure he could help you and i'm sure he, like others, didn't feel like helping due to your post style.
it's a good thing you edited it, though :).

@remigus,
Back to the topic,
My interleave setting is preload 500ms and interleave every 128ms,
and the Moonlight is working perfectly without problems.
But, first try to use other .ac3 filter, iviaudio.ax is the one you
should try.
Thank you.

yeah... the iviaudio.ax is the intervideo filter I mentioned in the first post, and therefore the one that doesn't work... Standard tdx2k2 sets ac3 interleave @ 96/64ms, but I get the skips whether its ac3 or mp3, so I don't think it can be the interleave settings (as interleaveing setttings for mp3 are much more flexible and I still get skips). Same for preloading... Thanks for the thought though.

@remigus,
What is your sound card anyway ? What is your OS and driver version ?
I'm using Audigy with latest Creative's driver dated Aug 2002 on
Win 2k Pro SP3. All AC3 filter are working well on my machine,
Moonlight, Intervideo, Cyberlink, or even the Valex's.

Ookzdvd,
thanks for your responce but sb audigy != sb live 5.1 gamer, and I have current drivers intalled and it already supports 5.1, the problem, as I said, is in the way the moolight codec handles 5.1
thx for the effort though, this one may just take a lot of playing

Yes almost all Creative cards suck big time on SMP platforms, no secret. Most ppl have opted to trash them and buy Fortissmo II or TB Santa Cruz which is about the same price but without all the wonderful Creative headaches. However, if you insist on keeping the card then do a search over at 2cpu.com and you'll find a few tips about forcing the SB card to utilize one CPU only. This trick apparently helps fix several issues from all that I've read over the past several months. Also worth noting is that many SMP users claim the Compaq SB drivers are much more stable on SMP boxes, your mileage may vary.
EDIT- I just remembered the name of the SMP utility that Creative owners are using to set the audio interrupt for 1 CPU, it's called INTFILTER. It's worth a shot I guess.

2kpro sp2, and as the original post stated sblive! 5.1 gamer This is a really bad combination... but I got it to work on an Athlon 1GHz system with the newest drivers (from March or something, I guess the same ones you are using).
For my own computer, I'm using a Philipps Acoustic Edge now because I don't trust Creative anymore (especially with their Win2k drivers)...
However - the Moonlight Odio Dekoda is working for me with both setups, with either WinMP 6.4 or BSPlayer 0.85 for decoding mp3 and ac3 (160ms/160ms for all ac3 bitrates).
I also got the Moonlight Dekoda to work perfectly with WinMP 7.x in WinXP Pro with some P4-OEM-onboard soundcard (on a friends computer).
