How do you handle problem reading the VOB file that was copied from a scratched dvd using DVDecryptor? it creates the .d2v file fine but then the VDub crashes when it gets to those frames. Any good suggestions?!?

Have you tried using 'Correct Mastering errors' in DVDDecrypter? I don't think it was designed to fix your problem. However, you should try it.

Well, I don't have the DVD anymore so I cannot rerip the file. Is there anything that could be done after it's on the hard drive.

When frame serving with Avisynth MPEG2DEC tend to crash mostly in the same function when given bad data. I once made a version of it that sets an error trap and just returns garbage for the bad frame (s) instead of crashing. It doesn't always work right but I've used it a couple times on problem cases.

But there is something else in the system that does not like having error traps, in ways I don't understand. This causes Virtualdub to hang at the end of the pass or when exiting after completion, often requiring a reboot.

But if you really want to try it, PM me your email address and I'll send you a copy of MPEG2DEC_ER.dll, the version of MPEG2DEC2.dll with error recovery. Note it also runs slower than MPEG2DEC2.dll since it only works when compiled for debug mode.

But don't expect me to support the darn thing. ;)

That didn't work either. :( VDub crashed with some sort of debugging error. Any other suggestions anyone?

Oh well. Just out of curiousity, when did vdub crash? When actually encoding, or when trying to go to the select compression screen?

I am not really sure. I set the thing going at night and went to bed. It was encoding for awhile I guess. But when I woke up the error was up.

I still can't figure this one out. Isn't there a way to bypass bad frames in VDub?

I had the same problem with a bad DVD (SpyGames). Ripping program made me believe it was pulling the Vobs successfully to my hard drive. When it came time to test them for play back, it skipped everything after the first 12 minutes. Now I check the DVD for scratches and try to clean it up the best I can.
