Hi. I´m a newbee in this, but I think there must be a VTS_01_0.vob (menu vob) present when you burn a disc.
Is this correct? VTS_01 is the movie.
If so, who can you "make" this, or is it just a empty file with this name.

No, you don't need this .VOB file. If it isn't present there will be no menu.

i don't think so...you need this file regardless. Read the FAQ on the dvd splitting guide.

If you intend to create a DVD with just the movie, you do not need it. If you want to split a DVD-9 into two DVD-5's and want full functionality, then yes you need it.

I burn mine all the time without that file and I have never had a problem. I only copy the movie no menu's or extras.

I would agree with SP33D, you don't need the file. I would say that the disc you create without the file will play in more standalone players.

I am not so sure about that...
I had been using Ifoedit using the "movie only" option (strip streams option) and discovered that even that it works correctly in my Apex DVD player, it doesn't in other players (Sony, Denon, and Mitsubishi). I took same movie (movie only) and authored it using a commercial program, same burning program (Prassi DVD), same DVD-R, same burner (Pioneer A103), etc. This created movie plays correctly in this others players. However the movie done with Ifoedit doesn't play. The DVD was recognize as a DVD, but nothing happens. I carefully check the structure of both movies (same movie using Ifoedit and movie using authoring program) and discovered that the VTS_01_0.vob was missing in the movie created with Ifoedit...
When using commercial authoring programs, even if you don't make menus the VTS_01_0.vob is created.
So, should I add a dummy VTS_01_0.vob when using Ifoedit?

If you're using Nero, It's a good tool to know if you need the VTS_xx_0.VOB files in your DVD.
Just create a new DVD Video compilation, drag your files and click on burn. Do not put any media on your burner...
Nero will start the DVD Video compatibility test.
If You need the VTS_xx_0.VOB file Nero will tell you:

04:34:23 p.m. #1 Phase 112 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1649
DVD-Video files reallocation started

04:34:23 p.m. #2 DVDREALLOC -21 File DVDVideoCompilation.cpp, Line 1119
Required file 'VTS_01_0.VOB' is not present

04:34:23 p.m. #3 Phase 115 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1649
DVD-Video files reallocation failed

If you don't need it, Nero will tell you:

30.12.2002
UDF/ISO compilation
04:48:43 p.m. #1 Phase 112 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1649
DVD-Video files reallocation started

04:48:43 p.m. #2 DVDREALLOC -22 File DVDVideoCompilation.cpp, Line 1119
File 'VTS_02_0.VOB' is not referenced and should not be present

04:48:43 p.m. #3 Phase 115 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1649
DVD-Video files reallocation failed

04:48:45 p.m. #4 Text 0 File Scsicmd.cpp, Line 406
SCSI not using temporary buffers
20 out of 20 temporary buffers allocated

If all works fine Nero will ask you to insert the media in your burner. Remember that Nero doesn't check if the VTS Sectors of your compilation are ok.
