View Full Version : subtitles turn on by default after stream strip

Using IFOEdit on what else (Scorpion King again), I strip the non-English languages and subtitles out of the main movie VTS. Putting the "DVD" back together after this, the subtitles are now on by default.
Any ideas - I'm hunting around for a strange pre-command somewhere, but so far I haven't found any difference between original IFOs and modified ones that seems like it could explain this.

OXV,
The thread you gave is really interesting indeed but it doesn't explain why you strip only one subtitle and in fact it keeps also another one.

this is because some subtitels have 2 id's ... for example the englis one has "0x20" and the german has "0x20, 0x21" ... and you select the german one to keep ... IfoEdit keeps alle subtitels with ID "0x20, 0x21" ... but the english one has "0x20" that's why you sometimes can't strip all subtitels
hope i got your problem rigth

ok, a really long and interesting thread ... but there was no real soloution for me. when i play the dvd with PowerDVD 4.0 the subs are off by default (like it should be) but when i play it on my pioneer hifi-dvd-player, the subs are on by default ... but there weren't on the orig dvd ... so it must have somethign to do with IfoEdit setting some value wrong or something when you strip an audio stream.
i hope someone can help me

I too encountered a similar problem. This was when I used the DVD-Author feature in IFOEdit 0.95 so its not down to incorrect sream ID's but rather a bug I suspect in the creation of new IFO's that only shows itself when played in a standalone.
Peacemaker - do your subs come on when you skip chapters as well?
The thread mentioned above does seems to go into the subject in a bit of depth but am still not too sure:

Derrow - perhaps it would be worth you authoring something in another DVD-authoring package and comparing with your own?

yep, they turn on everytime ... even when i skip chapters. i also set a pre command "(SetSTN) Set Subpicture Stream: 31(Off)" ... there are 15 subtitel streams so 31 should be empty ... but even this dind't do the trick for the standalone player.
in PowerDVD he plays all fine (orig / new_dvd without new pre commands / new_dvd with new pre commands) ... everytime the subtitles are off by deafult ... but not on standalone player and my standalone player has also no option in preferences or something where the deafult subtitel is set:Originally posted by mpucoder
Default subpictures, on the other hand, are those that appear when you simply turn subpictures on. Those are determined by the preference you or the manufacturer set into the player. You might want to check what preference you set into your players (earlier players may not have this, and neither does ps2)
