i think i've read every thread on mpeg 5.1...
i downloaded a couple of test files that frank provided to test with (a voice plays only in each channel saying what channel it should be in)...

anyways...with those files, my left surround will play both front left, surround left and center, my right surround will play right front, surround right, and center and my front will only play their respective tracks...this seems better than nothing to me.

now my question is, how do i create an svcd with this audio?i know my player (pioneer 343) supposedly supports mpeg 5.1 audio but i tried to do a rip with mpeg 5.1 selected in dvd2svcd and used iauthor to do the images but it didn't work...is there some other settings i missed? i was really frustrated that it didn't work and i deleted my entire ripping directory so my log file is gone...is there special besweet audio settings and is it ok to use cce? i thought i read somewhere that tmpge only supports it but i thought that was wrong...please help as i've seen that one other poster here said his pioneer 343 played mpeg 5.1 sound so im really hoping i can get something to work.
thanks in advance,
scott

As far as the DVD2SVCD Advanced guide goes, these are the only requirements:

MPEG 5.1
Creates two front channels, two rear channels and center channel. Must use I-Author (CD Image tab) to mux video and audio. Only a very select few dvd players can play SVCD 5.1 audio. Uses phillips MPEG 5.1 Encoder. But I'm sure you've already read that ;)

I have the Pioneer 343 and it never worked for me.
Only 2 or 3 Philips players work with it as far as I know.
I will make another attempt and see if it does work when I have time, but the way things are going that could be weeks.

thank you both for your replies :)

i trust your word mark over the last person i saw that said that their 343 would play mpeg 5.1 audio...oh well, i need to get a dvd burner and start making dvd-r...since i just got my surround sound system, 2 channel audio just doesn't cut it anymore for movies :D
