Hi,

I'm attempting to follow the CCE & IfoEdit guide. I've installed HeadAC3he (latest version v0.23a) with a view to creating the dummy audio files containing only a single AC3 frame. I load the source file (6ch 3_2 AC3 from Training Day), change the destination format to "Source", set the Start and End Frames to 1 then click Start. After a few seconds I get the Windows message "HeadAC3he has encountered a problem and needs to close". I also get the same problem with a 2ch source file. I am using Win XP Home but have also tried it under Win 98SE. I have 1.5GB RAM and 1.8GHz P4. I have a FAT32 C: drive and NTFS F: drive (the source files are on F:). I have downloaded all the latest dlls from Dark Avenger's site. Can anyone offer any possible solutions or insight? Is there another program I can use to do the same thing?

TIA

I'm following the AC3 cutting guide he at doom9 (www.doom9.org/mpg/ac3cut.htm), but am having a slight, but very annoying problem: when I set start and end frame to 1 to get a 32ms dummy file I get a 'Read less bytes than expected' error. If, however, I set the end frame to 2 everything works fine.

Any ideas

Please ignore the above post. I'd had 4 hours sleep and put it in the wrong place.

Gonna past it again as a new thread.

Sorry about that.

Any ideas

Sorry about that. you shouldn't create a new thread with exactly same problem.
you should search for old threads, and learn from them.
if you're not satisfied with the old posts, you should continue this thread, instead of opening a new one.

DSPGuru,

Ok, yeah, point taken. Sorry about that.:)

Been very groggy for the last few days (too many late nights trying to suss this stuff out- lol). Didn't even make the connection to begin with as I didn't understand your answer (see what I mean) and I miss-read the first poster's question - I'd been reading the forum for about two hours.

I have looked at your reply again, however, and made a dummy file using your method and prog (BeSplit). Took me a while as I haven't messed with the command prompt much recently, but I got there in the end.

Thanks.

I'm still interested in finding out why the hell HeadAC3he won't work though.

If you're getting the "read less bytes than expected" error, I've found that you simply set all of your settings as the guide explains for making dummy tracks in Headac3he, and finally, be sure to adjust the "delay" to 0 near the top of the application window. If my ac3 has a delay and i use the number that it enters by default, I always get the "read less bytes" thing. But moving it to zero fixes it right up.
