Hi all!

A mate of mine rang me to say he was having a problem with D2S that when he clicked the CD symbol to grab the IFO file and identify the movie, he got a blank messagebox with the title 'Information' and everything frooze. (not the analyzing video messagebox)

Ahhar I said you've haven't installed ASPI, yes I have was his answer. Well then you are probably trying the later version (4.7 or similar) they caused me problems browsing for the movie in XP Pro, use ForceAspi 1.7. I did he said. OK, run AspiChk and see what it says. It reports everything being installed with version 4.60 against each one.

I also suggested authenicating the DVD first in PowerDVD, but this didn't help either.

Hmmm, OK I'm out of options, do a search on the Forum and check the FAQ's.

We have both done this without success, any ideas ??

Cheers

Is this with all DVD's or just one?

Just for fun try re-installing the force aspi drivers.
I remember DDogg having an issue of them getting corrupted.
Maybe try getting them from Doom9.net just to make sure you know you have a version that is known to work.

Get SmartRipper and watch as it loads up. See if loads in aspi mode or Win mode. If it loads in Aspi mode then the problem is probably not in the Aspi drivers or the hardware. Try a quick rip and see if it works to boot. If this is the case I would completely uninstall DVD2SVCD and try a fresh install.

I hope this is of some help,
Mark

Since you're using XP i suggest you use the XP aspi drivers from my homepage, forceaspi is known to not to work on XP.

--forceaspi 1.7 is pretty much just adaptec 4.60 aspi drivers back when they didn't all them to be installed unless you had an adaptec scsi adapter, etc. (maybe I'm not remembering it correctly)
aspi 4.60 released Nov. 1999 (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&filekey=aspi32.exe)

--adaptec came out with 4.70 drivers and it seemed to cause some problems with win XP

--the lastest official release from adaptec is 4.71 I'd try that or dvd2svcd's suggest. I put in 4.71 and it works fine on windows xp, and xp sp1.
ASPI 4.71 release May 28th, 2002 (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?sess=no&cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_v471.exe)
it says this in the release notes for 4.71 "Previous versions of aspi32.sys for Windows 2000 and XP may not return the proper Maximum Number of Targets (HA_MaxTargets) in reponse to Host Adapter Inquiry (HA_INQUIRY). This has been corrected."

Of note: I've used Forceaspi 1.7 from square 1 on WinXP, without any trouble. It's curious, really...

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. He is doing a rebuild of his machine now, so if that solves it then I won't really be sure how the issue was solved.

I would point out that the link to XP ASPI drivers on DVD2SVCD's homepage is still sending you 4.60 I don't see 4.71.

Cheers

Yeah, 4.71 is an official Adaptec release and not a "hacked" version.

I do not think there is a Force Aspi or other version with 4.71. At least I haven't seen one.

Strange thing that I never had an issue with Force Aspi 1.7 and XP and I rebuild like once a week it feels like.
