I am sure that someday it will, but for now the answer is no.

Versions > 2.5 really don't have anything special enough to justify totally switching from 2.5 - which everybody is used to now (for the most part), and has few problems with.

What about updating avisynth.dll, if we updated those on our own computers would that make improvements in our SVCDs? Any other things worth updating in our DVD2SVCD software bundle to improve the DVD2SVCD or the SVCDs we make?

@Josh: That's kinda off-topic, but you can use MPEG2DEC2.dll instead of the default MPEG2DEC.dll, it tends to help out here and there :) Though not really in quality... and I doubt updating anything else would have an impact on quality either.

As a general rule don't upgrade anything unless you are told by DVD2SVCD or someone else associated with the program.
Many things can change in an upgrade and this may make the program useless or work in an unexpected way.

Examples: only CCE 2.5 and 2.64 will work.
DVD2AVI any version other then 1.76 will not work.

If it's worth upgrading you will know by just reading the recomendations of the authors that hang out around here (DVD2SVCD and DspGuru for BeSweet).

There is really no known reason to upgrade to a new avisynth as far as I know. The biggest change was when we went to 1.07D and that seemed to fix some bugginess.

I had problems converting the PAL version of the movie Tangled with both 2.50 and 2.62 (CCE freezes, tried about 10 times with several settings, see several other topics).

but...

I recently got my hands on CCE version 2.64 and it did the job flawlessly (a little slow due to safe frameserving) !!!

so I would like to see native support (fast frameserving which should be possible again) added for 2.64.

cheers,

@xp_eric: D2S 'natively' supports all versions of CCE 2.5 and greater. Versions > 2.5 and < 2.66, however, require frameserving (as you know) which makes them alot slower. What we're talking about in this thread is version 2.66s ability to do the job without frameserving. 2.64 requires frameserving no matter what, and is therefore quite slow. Expanded support for 2.64 is highly unlikely. The question is if support for 2.66 without frameserving will be available. As far as I'm concerned, however, it is useless, because in my own and others' tests, quality was indiscernible between 2.5 and 2.66, and 2.66 is still slower.

okay, sorry but I thought 2.64 also could be frameserved fast like 2.50. The issue here isn't an increase in picture quallity but a posible solution to the CCE freezes from which several people suffer from time to time...

cheers,

xp_eric 2.64 can be used in safe mode only. 2.50 can be used either regular or in safe mode.
2.66 cannot be used at all at this time from what I have read.
However there is a little bugginess with 2.64 sometimes. I think I heard it's because of a bad crack going around, but I have never been able to get it to work myself. Honestly I only really tried it for curiousity sake since 2.50 always worked for me.
I will usually use 2.50, but rarely use 2.62 which also has to be done in safe mode.

From what I have read there really isn't much difference between the versions, mostly bug fixes and mostly on the audio side. This is especially true from 2.50 to 2.64.
