nice work. It's all clean and tidy and it'll show the progress on french doom9.

Couple of suggestions :

let's get some kind of "official" dictionnary for most of the technical terms in doom9's guides. This way, we wont confuse the heck out of the readers and this will give us a nice "uniform" way of writing/translating guides. (I guess the glossary is a good start)

For example, the term "stream" should always be translated in the same way. This also goes for other stuff like framerate, keyframe and all.

And remember that as a general rule, you're translating guides for people who know what a firmware or rip is but dont master english well enough to read and understand a complete guide. So brute translations arent required in some cases. And most of the time, if the reader wants to do a google search over such a term, he/she'll probably have more luck using the english word anyways.

and for the French Academy's sake, use "gravure" and not "gravage" to translate "burn/burning/CD writing"..:)

cheers,

Update the link as direct link to XLS file seem not to work anymore. Provider issue perhaps.

Just an idea: Why make 2 lists (doc-overview.htm with flags and an XLS)? It's more difficult to maintain 2 lists and people don't need the XLS when they see in the doc-overview that someone is working on it anyway...

The Italian project has inserted the date when someone has reserved a guide for translation, look here:
http://italian.doom9.org/doc-overview.htm

No offense, just wanna help. :)

Good question. The fact is that overview.xls was an internal document. We decided to make it public because we have nothing to hide from our visitors (except our passwords :) ) and because it gives much more detailed informations. These information could be integrated in the doc-overview.htm but the page would be really overbloated. It's already quite frightening when you look at it and we didn't want to make it more messy than it is.

topic: doc-overview

I don't know why you put English flags on the doc-overview - if there isn't a French flag, it's clear for me that the page isn't translated... overkill?

As a suggestion:
Have a look at http://www.doom9.de/doc-overview.htm

Then look for "DivX4 Settings" (in the DivX section). Move your mouse over the half-flag there, then you'll see who has reserved the guide and when there was the last notice by him.

I haven't done this on all "half-flags" but I will do so in the future. That way, it's still a clean layout with German flags only (why bothering about English flags) - and you see who has assigned a guide and when he has done it.
