View Full Version : Will Nero burn unplayable files?

I'm trying to use up my crappy discs rather than get raped again by returning them. So far, out of about 15 I've tried I've got 3 fully-functional back-ups. I want to save time. Most of the bad discs simply can't be read by my player. A few have played OK then go wonky toward the end. If Nero burns a title set and it's not recognized by my player, can I assume the media's bad and just re-burn on another disc? Or, to put it another way, does Nero check the files thoroughly enough for it to determine whether the set is valid (not necessarily perfect but at least recognizable as a DVD to most players)?

Nero is not an authoring tool. As i've experienced that Scenarist 2.6 doesn't even check the files enough to get rid of errors that cause a lot of players to halt (you'll need DVD informer (also by Sonic) for that), I don't think a simple burning prog like nero can do that dirty job. It doesn't even do that for vcds (it does create dirs and check mpg-stream though).

Purely speaking of data: if you're burning dvd-r (as opposed to dvd+r) i've heard that their indeed is a lot of crappy media around, that still can be read back to your hdd and then burn it on better media. Read this thread by Commander XJL 'has anyone tried ....'
