Has anyone tried the generic discs from these guys? http://www.hypermicro.com/store/index.htm I'm kind of tired of getting the old FMH  from the CDrDVDrMedia, Supermediastore, and Meritline Conglomerate (they're all the same company if you ask me). I called Hyper Micro (an 800 # even) and someone actually answered the phone. Try that with the others. That someone actually knew what a DVD-R is. He didn't however, know what the true species of their generics are. They also have the new Ritek 2X for $1.19. Although I'm going to stay away from the 1.31 update, how are these at 1X? They don't sell singles and I already have a lovely set of 50 coasters from my last CDrDVDrMedia/Supermediastore purchase (and I mean LAST- as in never again  )

DarkMatter,
Sorry for the tardy reply, but I was waiting out my five days in forum purgatory.
The generics @ Hyper Micro are Vivastar, ADVDInfo below.
00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 89 0E 13 .B...@....P.....
87 88 80 00 03 56 49 56 41 53 54 00 04 41 52 00 .....VIVAST..AR.
They are 1x, light purple/silver. Reminds me of the KHypermedia discs I bought at OfficeMax, but those were CMC according to ADVDInfo...
I live in the area, and they were cool enough to let me pick up my order and save the shipping $$$.
Also picked up some Ritek DVD-R and the no-name DVD-RW they carry (turns out they are Princo).

What's your opinion of them (the discs)? And how was the service?

Haven't tried one yet (just got them Friday 9/27). I'll let you know when one goes for a burn (probably soon, I have some DV footage of my 2 yr. old that is just begging to go to DVD for the g-parents). I'm not a "ripper", so my needs are pretty minimal. I just dislike the idea of paying $5 @ BestBuy for something I can get for $1.50 (or less) on the net.
If you're worried about the quality, why not pop the extra $0.25 per for the Ritek-G03 discs? I bought 10 just in case the $0.99 discs were cr@p.
As for service from Hyper Micro, I'd have to say pretty good. We passed several e-mails, always had a prompt ( less than 2 hour ) response. I was really pleased with the OK to pickup since it would have taken UPS 2 days to deliver (and they probably would have f-ed something up), HM is literally 5 minutes drive from my office.
I don't think they are the cheapest source, but for low volume (qty. 10 min. on most of the "cheap" stuff) they were a good deal.
I will probably go back when I need more since the overall experience was good.
