Hi,

ok, I read the sticky thread about the pioneer FAQ and neither
Verbatim nor Princo are listed there. I always thought that
Verbatim are among the best media and they can not be burned
with 2x speed? I always get verify error with the above mentioned
media, even when burning them at single speed. Only using PIO mode
at single speed seems to make the burn successfully. So there is no
chance to use these with a pioneer 104 (FW 1.32). Is maybe the
pioneer broken?
The DVD-R I have verify errors with show the following information using ADVDInfo (Pre-Recorded Information in Lead In):

00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 98 0C 13 .B...@....P.....
76 78 80 00 03 54 44 4B 47 30 32 00 04 30 30 30 VX...TDKG02..000
30 30 30 00 05 88 80 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 000.............

which is according to the ADVDinfo FAQ a TDK-R2-0 (were sold to
me as PRINCO V2)

also
00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 87 0D 13 .B...@....P.....
88 99 80 00 03 4D 43 43 20 30 30 00 04 52 47 32 .....MCC 00..RG2
30 30 20 00 05 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 .............

gives me verify errors, which is a MCC-R1-0 (Verbatim)

As I said, I tried both with DMA (not on the KT7A motherboard) and 2x
speed.

Also, I am one of the fools who bought a KT7A, and the DMA mode seems
not to be working correctly there. I know it is also mentioned in a
thread by alexnoe, but this is just to confirm for me that there is no chance to have DMA mode working on VIA and therefore no double speed burning, even with the media mentioned in the pioneer FAQ, correct?

Thanks and sorry for bringing up stuff which seems to have been answered by the FAQ, but I just need some confirmation before I throw the pioneer out of the window :( (I created almost 30 unusable DVDs
... damn)

Any help why they do not work greatly appreciated.

Oliver

Verbatim is always Mitsubishi media. I haven't made any coaster with them :)
Princo 2x should be made by TDK, but TDK seems to sell some bad batches under different names.
Real Princo discs, made by Princo, will burn at 1x, and believe me, you don't want them.
Pioneer discs can be made by Pioneer and Mitsubishi.

Maybe you can send your bad burned Verbatim discs to Verbatim to get replace.

If you use PIO mode, then the data is not checked, that means if the cable is bad, your burner will simply burn wrong data. Did you try another (better) cable? I also had such problems due to a (very) bad IDE cable with a LiteOn CD writer.

The DMA bug seems to occur randomly. Atreides93 has a KT133A, which works fine with DMA mode, while my iBX440 doesn't (well, it has done for 7 weeks and then began to do crap in DMA mode). Another member of this forum even gets bad burns at single speed with PIO (KT133A chipset), can't remember the name.
Although I know several other people with this problem, I haven't found any connection between chipset and whether DMA works or not with this drive.

You can try reinstalling windows 2000. It includes some chipset drivers, so that you can set your hard discs to DMA mode without installing via4in1. This *might* help.
