When i convert an mpeg2 file (svcd 480 x 576)
to an avi (divx502), i always get a big black
border arround the video, it looks, like an
mpeg1-file (352 x 268) is embeded into 480 x 576
dimensions with black borders.

(Croping, resize etc is all off, i just want
an (480 x 576)sized avi video from and svcd-mpegfile)

BTW:
I have exactly the same prob, then i use MPEG2AVI

Has anybody an idea, where the error could be?

Probably no error, the black borders are most likely present in the MPEG stream.

Thanks for your answer.

Then i watch the mpeg2-orginal file with
Mediaplayer, there are no borders, but then
i watch the converted avi file in mediaplayer,
there are borders.

(Is it possible, that mpeg2 stores some kind of
invisible borders, maybe metadata,
that causes this prob?)

I still belive, that i make an stupid error during
conversion (i had this prob will all converted
mpeg2 files)

Could you open the AVI in VirtualDub instead and have a look there. Mediaplayer can sometimes add blackborders when the window isn't exactly the same size as the clip.

If there isn't black borders in VD the I suggest a new player, like Zoomplayer or BSplayer
