How many people run in PIO mode with an A03 or A04 burner?

I used to when I was running Win2K. i had some problems and i read on the internet about using PIO mode..but it turns out my problems were due to non compliant mpeg-2 files that tmpgenc was generating (old version of tmpegenc).
So anyway since installing WinXP, I've gone back to full DMA mode, and I have no burning problems whatsoever.

I used PIO mode for my first 5 burns, then switched to DMA mode from then on.

DVD Writer is a Pioneer A04.

My DVR-A03 has worked in DMA mode for about 7 week, just until one day before a french test. Then it started to give "communication failure" errors after 300-1100 MB. Glad that this occured on a DVD-RW...media was far too expensive in january for coasters.

Had to switch it to PIO4 to fix it. After upgrading to 1.80, I tried DMA again, but no success.

Chipset is i440BX, therefore no bad chipset drivers that could interfere.
