Hi,

With the firmware upgrade to V1.31 , I have burnt half dozen movies @ 2x without any problems on cheap generic discs.. now the successful ones read as RITEKG03 but its hard to know which discs are actually this batch when you buy online.. The sucessful ones I used are deep purple on the bottom and reflective silver on top...

Anyways.. I was wondering if anyone knows which discs on the Meritline website are actually RITEKG03 ? I want to place an order for 50-100 pcs so I want to make sure I'm getting the right ones.. Plus I'm shipping them from USA to Australia so I don't like the prospects of having to return them if they are the wrong ones...

Thanks !

Hi Cobby,

I am lucky enough to work for a USA based company so I have the discs shipped to my office in California and they ship them over to me free of charge... Kinda lucky I know..

100 discs cost me US$119.50 including shipping to California (around AUS$2.20 each !)

The Ritek G03 discs play perfectly for me in my Standalone Pioneer 525 - not one failure in over 50 discs. The added bonus now is being able to write this cheap media at 2x (using the 1.31 firmware update (NOT the official V1.32 ! This REMOVES the Ritek media from being written @ 2x)..

Cheers

I have also had much success wwith ritek g3 discs. I have a stand alone sony dav-s300, which spits out cheaper discs & Bulkpaq & princo's skip towards the end of the film. I did Lord of the rings last night with only 16mb left on the dvd-r & it never skipped once. Trouble is, I only have about 5 left and now I need to find someone in the UK who sells them. Got the last lot from www.dvd-and-media.com - looks like they have a different brand now though.

I've been using Ritek G03 disks for a while now and i also upgraded my Pioneer A04 to firmware v1.31. I must say that i have not had a single faulty burn when i burn these disks at 2x speed and i must have burned about 15 in the last couple of days. These are really excelent discs ! However, i pay my disks a little more because i order them in Belgium (where i live): 2,95 Euro a disk for a 100 pack and 2,50 Euro a disk for 200 pieces.

This makes sense for me because the shipping costs are very low, and i don't run into the chance that I have to pay additional custom taxes and VAT charges when i order discs from a mailorder service in the US. This also gives me the additional security that when something is wrong with the discs, i can ship them back with very easy. And last but not least, i have a business of my own so i can deduct the VAT (which is 21% over here) so i'm actually only paying around 2,05 Euro a disc, which is fine by me all things considered.

For anyone living in Belgium or The Netherlands, I think this is a easy and safe way to get your hands on Ritek G03 media.
If anyone is interested, you can reach these guys at softmedia@skynet.be

If you are using the newest version of Nero it also has a utility that lists all of the attributes of your drives
