I recently discovered something about "generic" media.

First, I'd like to mention that Commander was right about a few things. That skipping problem towards the end of a disk, can be attributed to "bad media">

Where he was wrong though, is that not all generic media has that problem.

I gave up using my Sony set top player because it kept skipping disks, and I thought I'd used Apple disks back then, but I went through my collection and realized that the first disk I noticed the skipping problem on was a Meritline generic disk.

SO, I got my sony player out of mothballs, and set it up and tried my newer movies that are on Ritek's. I have about 30 Ritek dvd-r's now. Guess what? They all play flawlessly on the Sony 530D...even up to the last chapter!!!

So I'm really happy that my Riteks' don't have that problem with skipping at the end, and my Sony player isn't to blame.

SO, Commander, rather than continue to try shitty generic media, why not take the advice of people who have tried it and get the ritek's ok? i'm not lying to you, they really do work fine!! But get them from Rima, cause I have no idea what the others sell when they say "ritek".

So how do I know they will play on my main player? This is another one of the problems with generics, very often it takes the right combination of burner, burning software, and standalone. But your right, it wouldn't hurt to try a few and see, if they work I could save some money. I see on the site I can get 10 for 14 bucks. What burner do you have and what burning app do you use?

Pity rima.com don't ship internationally otherwise I'd be buying up large from them.

Hopefully my email will to them will get them to re-think their current stance on not shipping outside of USA/Canada. As a lot of online retailers are seriously restricting their customer base by being so firm on not shipping internationally.

Well I've tried these Ritek's on 4 different DVD players.
A Sony 530D, Toshiba something or other, Oritron 600, and an Apex.

I have the Pioneer A03 burner with firmware 1.90
and I'm using Nero 5.5.8.2 UDF/ISO mode
sometimes I use Prassi Primo, but I like nero well enough.

Yeah I agree with atreides, Ritek G03 is the most reliable generic media... it really plays everywhere perfectly. And for the price ($1.25) it's certainly a good deal.

The only thing is once you started burning x2 with TDK or other similar media, it's hard to go back to the Riteks :) Now you can find x2 TDK or Verbatim in the 2-3$ price range.

But if you don't care about time Ritek is the way to go. Over 100 Riteks DVD-R I just got 5 with errors on the last chapter (freezing).
But those DVD-R were completely full: 4.38 GB.

There are very few manufacturers which constantly deliver high quality, such as Mitsubishi (aka Verbatim DataLifePlus) or TDK (real ones, not rebranded ones).

There are also very few which constantly sell crap media (for CD-Rs: PostTech, DST), but most "generic" cheap manufacturers sell whatever comes out of their plants. Sometimes, you might even get a good batch of CMC or Princo.
This is something which some people do not seem to be aware of.

==>So how do I know they will play on my main player? You don't.
