View Full Version : So where is it now ... dvd2avi_nic release ?

We heard a lot of promises the last months (patience; next weekend; next week).

Until now there is no real release (only some accidental release or privileged testers release).

Why ?
Time couldn't be the problem because I have read already about other projects like MPEGDecoder.dll ...

Would it be possible to give a public download address for the really fair waiting community ?

Thanks in advance (I'm waiting really for several months now without any complaining :( )

Im not sure whether I want to release it as I know ill only get a huge flood of requests wanting new features & thats not what I made dvd2avi a la nic for. It was made so I could do high quality encodes with as few clicks & preparation as possible.

If people want lots & lots & lots of different options they should be using GKnot...my version was mainly designed for myself & to stop people from taking easier options that don't have as good quality (i.e. XMPEG, Vidomi ) (No offence to these programs of course but they cant take advantage of things like decomb, smoothers & other AviSynth filters)

But im redoing my website soon, so ill put up the lastest version then along with loads of other bits too :)

(sorry for the wait y'all)

Cheers,
-Nic

Hey, I have the 16-6-02 build of your dvd2avi build and i'm very impressed of it's way of decryption! Some files that I had problems with (e.g. Matrix R2) and that I couldn't decrypt with any settings I chose in vStrip or DVD Decrypter. In your build I just check Decrypt and it works fine. To me, this is the main difference to all the other builds I used before. The rest is just stuff I can do with other proggies as well, like you said. But I think many people would enjoy the decryption part a lot!

P.S.: You might be right: You could be bugged for improvements (maybe some subtitle functions, demuxing...)

Hey Farok havent seen you in here for a while :)

I just couldn't handle the feedback if I released it now. and its such a mess (& I really mean it). The gui.cpp is a huge file now.

Im kinda wanting to write DVD2AVI from scratch, because basically d2a is the MSSG code with a gui bolted on & although it works beautifully its a pain to add to.

Ive already written the code to create the d2v files (I wanted to use maven's code, but got confused so coded it from scratch). im using libmpeg2 as the decoder and using it as a .lib to keep the decoding quite seperate to everything else. At present ive got C++ classes for handling large multiple files, demuxing, audio, etc.

Its just a matter of getting the time.... :(
ill let y'all know how I get on :)

Cheers,
-Nic

It is not Nic's fault but I sort of mostly stopped working on DVD2AVI/save-oe about 7 months ago because I was waiting for a pending Nic release that would have totally dwarfed any efforts that I'd have time to create.

I feel like I have been Microsofted. ;)

Hardly Tom :) Your efforts are very very appreciated. I got down to re-writing DVD2AVI from scratch last night. Im trying to do it neatly, but im suffering from a very bad cold at present :(

I also want to release my MPEGDecoder.dll soon, which should now support very large resolution MPEG-2 TS files (HDTV and bigger). Thanks to Peter Gubanov of Elecard...So hopefully it may be of some use to you & ascociates of the avsforum :) (?)

The only reason that I havent released DVD2AVI_Nic is that people will want many additions and the code was already a rediculous mess (ill post the gui.cpp so people can see what I mean). If I can re-write it nicely and get it to the same level as the original dvd2avi_nic then other people can make their own additions easily ;)

Ill let you know how I get on... :)

Cheers,
-Nic

Nic, pleaseeee........you are in the development of : XVID, DSF, MPEG2dec, DVD2AVI and probably one or two more projects....man, come on...we know that all this is related, and that you are a real good programmer, but, why donīt you make one thing at one time???.......at least, finish ONE, and move on to the next....

Hope you take this lines in the right way.........we love d2a, and want to see and taste it NOW. :o)

LoL :D Im far too scatty for that. I get bored too quickly, they are all related & I only do it for the learning :)

(to note how they're all related, yesterday I realised that my DVD2AVI had a problem seeking through certain SVCDs (as did my MPEGDecoder.DLL) by fixing dvd2avi I fixed mpegdecoder.dll :) )

Hope my weird ways dont frustrate too many people :)

Cheers,
-Nic

Maybe you want to try M&M ? (as is an evolution of DVD2AVI)
