I didn't know where to post this thread so i decided to post it here.
I really don't know if what i'm going to say is sounds logical
Well, i have always used in my test, rips PAL movies(25 fps). Wouldn't there be a possible gain in space(~5%) if we would convert 25 fps to 24 fps which, to tell the truth, is the framerate that the movie is really being filmed (at least from what i remember).

If something like this exists as a avisynth or virtualdub filter could anyone inform me. I remember very well the existance of filters to convert NTSC (29.97 fps) to 23.976 fps.

First of all, 25fps looks better when you play it on PAL TVs.
Second of all, it's very hard to get the sound right, when you change framerate. So i would not recommend it.

This has been discussed here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32748)...well, sorta.

AFAIK there are no added frames to PAL movies (unlike NTSC ones), instead the movie is played sightly faster than cinema, so you won't gain any space when changing the frame rate. And you will get a choppy playback if you just decimate it (remove 1 every 24 frames). Not talking about the sync issues (you'll need to calculate the new duration and change the speed of the audio track using a tool like Cool Edit).

It has been discussed even earlier...read especially Kermit's comments in this thread:

I think DeXt covered what i wanted to hear.
Since Pal movies are exactly the same frames captured (no added frames like NTSC) and they just play a little faster, my idea is crap.

For me this thread is considered closed.
