Whats the best package for burning complient DVD Videos

I have always used Nero to burn my DVDs and it works wonderfully.

But I recently found that the disks it created didn't make disks which work on the Toshiba 510.

I then tried InstantCD 6.2 which worked (and made Toshiba friendly disks), but was very unstable for me and used to fail after exactly 1 gig.

I also tried the 'Primo' package, but that was the same as nero (i.e disks didn't play on the Toshiba).

I then went back to Nero, as it made good disks for my player (Pioneer 545)

However.. My colleague bought the Pioneer 454 and Nero disks wouldn't play.

I then tried RecordNOW 4.1 and that made disks which play on the Pioener454 and Toshiba510.

However, at this point, I had only used it to burn disks which were either home authored (using DVDit from DV footage) or complete disks.

This week I did some rips (using IFOEdit) and the disks made with RecordNow don't play on ANY player.

The same files burned with Nero play fine (but still not on the Pioneer or Toshiba players)

So, I now need to try something new.

What is the best software for making fully compatable disks?

InstantCD 6.5 is out and I am tempted to give that a go.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Personally I would'nt go for Instant CD/DVD 6.5 as I downloaded the trial version to test & it completely messed up my Ifoedit and DVD ripping utilities. Also its much advertised DVD9 - DVD5 is next to useless. Just my 2c worth.

I am going to give it a try.. I have the offical 6.2 version and have just downloaded the 6.5 upgrade/update dated 5 days ago.

I am not expecting much.. Their last version (6.4) was hideous, but you never know.

i've tried all the programmes that you mentioned and gear is the only one that manages to make compliant dvd's that are 100% compatable with my standalone player.

Instant CD is still a crock!

The problem I had in 6.4 is still there in 6.5, so its no use.

I try and burn a UDF/Video DVD and add a VIDEO_TS directory with the correct files (Adding up to 3.84 gigs.)

When the burn stats, the progress bars shows "xxMb out of 1023.15mb"

For some reason, it thinks that the disk is exactly 1 gig and only burns to 1gig.

When i had this problem before, I tested about 10 different VIDEO_TS directories, and only about 1 or 2 would show the correct size and burn to 100%.

The others always showed 1023.15Mb.

I reported it to VOB and they could seem to care.

I will give 'gear' a go.

The only other one I am aware of is PrimoDVD, but that always had the same problem as Nero in that the disks burned won't play on a Toshiba.

If anyone can tell me other applications that burn DVDs, I would be interested. I am willing to try ANYTHING!

Perhaps I have missed the obvious.. I didn't realise that IFOEdit can create an IMG which could be burned with RecordNOW.

what kind of dvds are you burning and with what hardware? dvd+r/+rw aren't playing on toshiba/pioneer/panasonic EVER.
Try to play it on Sony/Philips/Cyberhome instead or start burning -r/-rw (not recommended). GL and HF

That's pretty much my fail-safe option. I know that if I use this method and it doesn't work that it's ME who has screwed something up. This works even on the pickiest of players.

Just did a quick test with IMGTOOLs, but can't get it to work.

I realise that the VIDEO_TS must be in the root directory, but the first time I tried, I got a run-time error!

I don't fully understand whats happening, as I get 2 windows and both ask me for an image file name.

is there an idiots guide on how to use this feature??

I don't double space, I put a single space between paragraphs.. Isn't that what paragraphs are ment for. Personally, I think its easier to read that a great big block of text with little or no punctuation.

But I have to ask.. What difference does it make?

I did enter the information twice, but got a 'runtime' error.

I am pretty sure that I read that the original files (IFO, BUP and VOBs) must be in a VIDEO_TS directory at the root level of the drive.

However, as it uses 'subst' for some reason, I can't actually work out whats happening.

To be fair, I havn't had much chance to play, so will have another go later.
