Hi there people. I would like to know how to crop an avi I have without altering anything else about it. I would like to use nandub as well. Can anyone help me with this? the reason I want to do only this is because I encoded it by mistake when ripping it and I don't wanna mess with the quality or filesize. Thanks in advance .....;)

Hi-
You can't just crop without reencoding. Sorry.

Let me just elaborate on that (no offense Manono :)),
The black bars exist in every single frame of the movie. To be able to cut the black off, the movie needs to be decompressed (because it doesn't exist as frames in the file, but just compressed data). After decompressing you'll want each frame back into the file which requires compressing again.
It's like updating a rar or a zip file, you can't modify a file inside the archive without decompressing->compressing.

If you don't have the DVD anymore you can use ffdshow filter to crop the black bars and to resize also.

Ok then is there a way to encode as close to the original encoding as possible ....ie to make as little change as possible to the original film file. I would like to just remove the black areas. I want it close to the original file size because when I mux them together the filesize comes to just under 700mb just small enough to fit on cd. :) Any info would be good thanksss.........
