Have any video gurus taken a look at wm9 yet? Its performance seems quite impressive, about as good as xvid/DivX 5. Instead of blocking, it often seems to generate random noise in a block, like its quantization sends the HF coeffs wild instead of killing them. Just interested if xvid has something to learn from MS.

At the same filesize? Is wm9 good at this(respecting the desired filesize)?
Just asking.

This really does not involve XviD. MS claim they have moved away from MPEG-4 & seeing there source & workings are very closed, XviD cant learn anything from it. :(
However, I prefer XviD's quality (after the little tests I did). Please take any further discussion to the threads on the New Formats forum (you could even try my WM9 Encoder there if you wished :) )
Anyway ill close this thread as discussion on the quality of WM9 does not really belong here.
Take Care,
-Nic
ps
@rui: we posted at the same time, just to answer the question, it is in CBR mode, not in VBR (but setting the Max Bitrate with constrained quality to 2.5 times the avg bitrate does help alot). But this is not for discussion in this forum.
