View Full Version : GeForce 3 card with S-Video. How to use it?

To anyone who might have a clue how to do this:
I bought a GeForce 3 ti500 video card that comes with an S-Video port. I got it from someone on ebay, so I don't have any instruction manual or anything.
I would like to run a cable from the S-Video port to a big TV, so I can watch DivX movies on the TV.
I assume lots of people who use this forum do this, so I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me how to get output from the port.
Right now, when I plug the S-Video cable into the card and then into a video device, I get no signal. Is there some kind of setting or software I'm supposed to use??
Thanks.

you possibly need to enable the svideo out through a software setting

You might take a look at this FAQ I found at the GeForce website. It is titled "TV-out on my graphics card is not working. How can I fix this?" It describes the procedure to use to enable the S-video output.
On this page is also a link to the latest Nvidia drivers, in case you'd like to check that as well.

(Disclaimer: I don't have a GeForce card, and couldn't try this myself.)

try downloading a demo/or buy TvTool too, which helped my problems.
Normally you control it through the Display properites in Control Panel.

Ok for anyone who's interested, here's how you do it:
1) Go into the display properties. This is easiest done by right clicking on empty desktop space and selecting "Properties".
2) Go to the settings tab. The one where you determine your screen resolution.
3) Click on the "Advanced" button.
4) Go to the "Device Selection" tab.
5) Select "TV" instead of "Analog Display".
WARNING: Since the card has only one RAMDAC, your monitor will go black when S-Video is activated. You MUST have an S-Video output device in the same room as your computer in order to get your settings back to the monitor, because you will need to do all these menus USING your S-Video device (TV) instead of the monitor, which remains black until you restore the settings. Rebooting does not help.
Also, you will need to be in 800x600 resolution BEFORE going into S-Video mode, because if you are in higher resolution, you won't be able to read the text on the TV.

with TvTool you can use the monitor AND the tv at the same time. the monitor will flicker @ 50 (pal) or 60 (ntsc) herz though.
TvTool (http://tvtool.info/) is highly recommended.
