I bought a 100 disc spindle of PrimeDisc (http://www.shop4tech.com/cgi-bin/shop/shop.cgi?action=specs&&item=1019843280&&choice=CDR%20%20CDRW%20%20DVDR&&subchoice_1=DVD-R&&subchoice_2=DVD-R%20Branded) from Shop4Tech on 9/3. I'm a new Pioneer DVR-104 owner and this was my first batch of DVD-Rs. I insert a blank and the drive tries to read it, but just eventually times out. I tried discs from different parts of the spindle as well with the same result. I then went to Compusa and bought some TDK DVD-Rs and they work fine.
The serial number on the inner clear ring of the discs is C405RP20720xxx... I read that PrimeDiscs are suppose to begin with a C1- serial number? Bottom is purple, but I don't know if you would consider it dark or light purple, as I have no point of reference. I called Shop4Tech and they're going to replace them, but the person I spoke to didn't seem very knowledgable. Has anyone had success with this media? Are they even PrimeDisc? Like I said, I can't even test them with ADVDinfo as my drive doesn't recognize them as media.

PrimeDisc (recently) I've been ordering from Shop4Tech have been coming in two formats.
When you buy the bulk (50 or 100) you get a disc that is silver top (no logos), a really dark purple dye and a serial number of C1-xxxxxxx in the center ring (which is foggy). Using ADVDinfo (and DVD-R utility to read the manufacturing info from the blank) shows the disc as being a RITEK..G3
The Retail (usually sold with cases in 25 or singles) has a different look completely. There is a logo etched on the top, the dye is lighter purple and the ring is completely clear (don't remember the serial number). ADVDinfo shows the disc to be a AUVISTAR. By the way, it's also etched in very very small letters on the dyed side of the media, near the inner ring.
I've used the bulk version primarily, over 400 burned successfully. I've used the retail version for about 75, again no problems. They both play very well in all the players I own and others I've made discs for.
If the disc doesn't match either of those descriptions, you may have been shipped the wrong media. Who knows, maybe they accidently shipped you DVD+R's? Anything's possible. That would explain the drive not recognizing the media.
Considering this is your very first batch of DVD-R, is it possible it's something else? Did your Pioneer come with a blank Pioneer disc? Did that one work? The reason I'm asking is you may have a hardware problem, unrelated to the disc brand.

Thanks for your prompt response. Like I said before, I went and got some TDK DVD-Rs to make sure it wasn't my hardware that was faulty. I think they did just sent me the wrong media.
PS The inner clear circle ring on these aren't foggy.

My recent 100 disc PrimeDisc order from Shop4Tech came with half of them having a serial C1-2L XXXXXXXXXXX and the other half E5-3L XXXXXXXXXX. Both were silver on top and dark purple on bottom. They both work perfectly. I would like to use ADVDinfo on them but can't get that prog to work.

damn, thats sucks, almost all the way through with my 50 pack, about to order the 100 pk. Anyone else have simular experiences with the different versions of Primedisc cr@pping out? My inner ring is foggy and for a reference of what 'dark' purple is, go shop4tech's site and compare the leda (or any other cheapos) which are light purple, and the primedisc picture, which is dark.
