I figured since I got the media and was able to burn Shrek with DTS and DD filling the entire DVD (ok, 3 megs free) and getting no skips with the silver Reiteks with the purple media I should post that these still cheap DVD's ($65 for 50) work great. Something else I should note, fast forwarding and skipping chapters is much much faster, just like a pressed DVD. The Optodiscs skipped in fast forward real bad, played about every 30th frame or so, these ones play about every 3 frams in fast forward. Chapter are way faster, split second for a chapter instead of a second or 2 with the optodisc. I will be using these exclusivly from now on. I got them on shop4tech.com incase you are interested. I don't have advinfo, but I will get it and run it, I'm sure these are the G3's that everyone is talking about though.:)

I've been pretty happy with Ritek's

As an update to my previous post, I'd like to say that the Ritek's, while indeed being much better then the optodisc, still have slight skips at the ends. I am now convinced that it's my DVD player, being older then 1 year, was not designed to handle DVD-R media. Can anyone make a recomendation of a good player that's not real expensive and has component outputs with progressive scan? If toshiba makes one with the colorstream that plays DVD-R's great, that's the kind of TV I have, and it has colorstream inputs, one of the reasons I have the Toshiba DVD player now. I want something that can play anything I throw in it though, so if I have to go pioneer, that's fine too. Thanks

My Philips 724 I just got plays everything. The only problem with it is that it doesn't play CC.

I use an Apex 3201 for my progressive scan player (hooked up to my 53" Pioneer HDTV). Works nice, and plays everything I throw at it.

Have you both tried these players with Ritek Media or Optodisc? I don't plan on using Optodisc anymore but I do have a few movies that are only on the first 3 gigs of the DVD and figure they don't skip now so should be ok. I'd like to make sure when I get a new player it will play the cheaper media, not the cheapest, but cheap (1.20-2.00 range)

Thanks

I mainly use Ritek media and it plays in my Philips 724, Apex 703, Ge 5803, Yamakawa and Pioneer 434. The Pioneer is more picky about how the DVD is authored.

I use PrimeDisc, which are in fact RitekG3 media. They work fine in my two Apex players, one Samsung, one Sony and one Panasonic portable.

I've never used OptoDisc.

I've checked a few that you 2 mentioned, I think I may try the philips model, it's not very expensive for the features and does mention DVD+RW playback. Thanks for the help guys.
