ok now i dont know if people know this and please correct me if i'm wrong .
i dual boot my box with windows 98 and 2k and have installed divx4 on 98 and divx 5 on 2k. Could this be a work around of the problem of having both codecs installed? because it works!!! Or does it just encode using the codec which has been over written in the other OS?

as long as you're keeping the install folders seperate for divx and are not just overwriting the current information with older information or vice versa, you're good:)

I found a .vbs file a while ago that let you switch between divx4 and 5. I'm still fairly sure it used divx5 decoder for playback when viewing divx4 content, but I suppose you could use ffdshow and select Xvid to decode it.
I probably found the file here on these forums, I was a little wary of running a vbs script but it was ok, only annoying thing was I have to disable the antivirus auto-protect, and you have to run it again to 'turn off' divx4. I find Xvid is close enough to divx4 (a bit better) so its a good alternative.
