Closing a thread before someone can respond? No, skipping at the end of the disk isn't always because of cheap media, just usually, all the post about it the past year prove that. Most people have the sense to burn the same project on quality media after having trouble with generic, and 9 out of 10 times guess what they find? As far as ordering any generic media I'll pass, I've lost enough time and money already. I can get TDK's for 3 dollars a piece and thats with shipping, so I'll do that. I think I'll stick to the understanding of why these disks are a dollar or so a piece. I've used 6 different brands of quality media with no problems from any of them, 2 brands of generic and they were both garbage, gee I wonder what that might point to. If I found generics that worked ok that would be great, I want to save money too, but then you still have to worry about will they work in 3 months or 6 or a year. If someone can't face up to statistics, facts, common sense, or logic, ok that person is not an idiot. And it is a fact, there are tons of problems with generic media, and almost none with quality media. Anybody who's read this forum as thorough as I have for as long as I have (a lot longer than you've been a member or moderator) would realize that. There's just nothing to argue about with that. I guess now you can just delete this post

Unfortunatly that's reality for me as well.

I have been unlucky with all the cheap media I used, except the Ritek G03. Or I should say until recently, because when I replay some backups, I noticed yesterday again that if the DVD-R is full, the last 5-10 mns skip on my APEX 1500.

It does not happen all the time, but that's the 5th Ritek G03 that gives me this kind of problem

And it's definitly not because of the player. When I try to copy the last VOB on my PC I get error usually arround 70-80% of completion.

Other than that the Ritek G03 has been working great for me, but I am not going to take the chance any more. I will stick to the "true" TDK DVD, the "VX..TDKG02".

Oh one more thing, if you notice that your movie freeze at then end, just to make sure that's really because of the media, try to copy the last VOB using DVDDECRYPTOR. If it can't read it back that's the DVD-R fault and not the player ;)

See this is what I'm talking about. One person says try this brand, they're great. Then the same day someone says they have trouble with that same brand. This goes back and fourth on and on with every brand of generics, but never with name brand. I'm with thxtof, I'll buy quality from now on. I can't believe this is even able to manifest itself into an argument. If it wasn't for closed minded people that can't face truth and reality it wouldn't. I'm not close minded, I did the generic thing and tried my best. Then I faced the truth, where some people won't.

Here's a new post from rinkel:

have another warning for you guys.. I am one of the idiots who buyed some discs from cdrecordable.com . Today i noticed that ALL of those discs are starting to disintegrate... the top layer at the end of the discs are coming off !
So today i started to write all those discs to my HD and burn them to a-brand media.

Is anyone getting it yet? It is a DAILY complaint from someone with generic media. And no, it is not because they're stupid, it is not the fault of they're player, it is the fault of people that manufacture this junk then take peoples money for it, and I'm sick of these places basically stealing from these people. In fact, its worse than stealing, because you have to account for the time and trouble they cost people too, not just the money.

I closed the thread because it was just turning into a flame fest...

Anyway, until I start seeing the bizarre problems you guys have pointed out with generics like Ritek, I'll keep using them.
In the meantime, for important stuff like home movies and weddings, I use TDK or Pioneer.
Its not a big deal if a couple of movies disappear...i dont really like to watch movies over and over again anyway!

How long do I have to wait to see if a disk will fade or stop working like you've reported?? so far, none of my disk have done that yet.
I went back to watch some of the old ones I first burned, and they still play great. Its been a few months at least....do i have to wait a year or two? when will they fade?

I don't think that the Ritek G03 are fading.

It's just that for 100 burnt, I got 5 (so far) where the last VOB is only partially readable. Those five DVD-R are full though, almost 4,38 GB, the very limit. At the time I did not check them, so they might be like that since the begining, who knows...

When I look at the disk I can not find any visible defect.

Anyway it's no big deal, the majority of my Ritek G03 play without any problem.

But you may want to check your DVDs that are above 4.3 GB
;)
