Hi
i am planning to purchase a 2 amd 2200 mp cpu's with asus motherboard but i have a few questions.

1. can pinnacle studio 8 use dual cpu ?
2. how much speed improvement is possible in tmpgenc
3. how is yhe compatibility and stability with normal winxp pro and other applications

thanks

nothing to say to point one

second
i have a abit bp6 with 2 celeron 400
when i encoded 20 min episodes of anime
it took about 5 hours
compairing to the about 2 hours of my 1,333 ghz athlon (non-xp core)

everything happened on winxp, no probs with compatibility

but it really rocked ;)
i recorded with a ati aiw 128 480*576 w/ zero frame loss, while the other cpu converted the previous file

1.....not to sure about
2.....in tmpeg I get about a 50 to 75 percent boost doing mpeg2->mpeg2 converts. i ruffly do 2hours of video in 45 to 50 minutes.
3.....Software stability is not really a problem but hardware stability sometimes is. Wintv-pvr refueses to capture on certian dual boards, and there are some sound card issues too(mainly cmedia).

Ive had 2 dual processor systems and i cant go back. Even if a program only supports one processor, you still have full access to another. Its great to play jedi knight 2 and encode and the same time.

The only problem is that it seems to be addictive. Im saving up for a 4to8 way sledgehammer because im finding duals limiting.

i hope this helps

2x1900+, asus MB, 512MB cas2 mushkin ddr, 3ware 7000 8 way raid controller, 2x120gb 8mb cache raid 0, geforce 3, 4port adaptec nic.
and a beautiful 18inch flat screen.

The cost was not that bad, it took over 3 months to get those parts.
I still have stuff to buy(6 more HD, a new videocard, cant wait until the holiday season, a watercooing setup is in the mail, and more ram). As long as you buy in small doses, you dont make the checking card laugh at you.

Hello

I have been doing some investigation to assemble a dual Pentium machine, and according to Intel the celeron does not have dual
support, they state that the pentium III with 512 Kilobytes of cache memory and the Intel Xeon are the only ones which support dual processing.

I'm currently in the process of speccing out my new system, and have done a ton of reaserch on SMP since the new MSI boards make it *MUCH* more affordable. You can get Dual XP1600's for about the same price as a 1.8a . . . And the MSI board supports overclocking/standardATX/StandardDDR also!

Anyways, head on over to 2cpu.com for all the info you need for SMP. Long story short, All P3's are SMP enabled, but only the Xeon's are officially supported. XP's are also not officially supported, however some (about 2-5%) just will not work in SMP for whatever reason (for speculation, head on over to 2cpu.com). Of course, with p3's you need to make sure you have the same stepping, which is getting harder and harder as that CPU is being phased out. The original celeron supports SMP, the celeron II (566mhz+) does not. The duron is the same as the XP, you run the risk of getting a bad CPU, however they will work in SMP if you get a good pair. In theory, your odds of getting a good Duron pair are better then an XP since the MP pool is taken from the XP pool, while the Duron pool is untouched. Also, you have to reconnect the L5 bridges on the newer XP's to get them to work at all in SMP mode, and . . .

. . . . errr, what was your question again?

look here (http://www.denniskarlsson.com/smp/) to find smp aware software

I'm running dual athlon XP 2000's. You know the only differance between XP and MP's is the L1 bridges aren't connected and alos a hefty pricetag. My system is stable as a rock and I run dual XP. If you can afford dual MP then you can probably get dual XP 2400+'s. Would be a nice system.
