I hope someone can answer this. I've been here a couple of times and have learned a lot. But I have a basic internet question that I can't find anywhere else. I'm hoping that someone here could help me out.

There is a particular site that I am trying to copy text from but it is in flash and it has some type of protection on it. Basically the two ways I know of how to copy can't be used. Usually I would highlight text then right click -> copy or I would go to edit -> select all -> copy. Neither work. Anyone have any ideas?

... there is no way to copy and paste a text out of a flash file run in IE or similar when running the flash player.
since i don't have flash i don't know how it is in the program itself, but it's probably possible to extract the text there... if you want the whole flash file, it is usually saved in the temporary internet files folder if you load it more than once!

Thanks for responding. I went through the temporary internet files folder but no luck there either.

The only reason I am still looking for a way to do this is because the owner of the site said there was a way,

quote:
"...means that it will become harder for people to save stories of mine for offline reading."

She said harder not impossible. So I still have hope But thank you.

of course i'm assuming you're doing this just because of the knownledge and will delete all files after 24 hours!!

load the flash site several times and close the browser in between!
then do a search on "*.swf" without the quotes of course... this searches for all flash files executable in the standalone player!

you might have some luck there... you can also include the size in the search if it is told before or while loading the file!

The site has been down for a while but it's finally working and I checked my temporary internet files folder like you said - found it, opened it in it's own window then saved as Text and there it is. :D

I do not want the files for any illegal use.

Thank you
