I have a 720x480 dv source i wish to encode with Virtual Dub.

I wish to crop 8 off the bottom, right, and left. what are my variables i place with Crop ( ?,?,?,? bilinear resize 640,480)

The readme guide is not clear:

Crop(left,top,width,height,clip)
CropBottom(count,clip)

would variable width = initial source width(720) - left(8) - right(8)?

would variable height = initial source height(480) - bottom(8)?

Why don't you try it and see what you get?

Crop(8,0,704,472) will do the job.

But as Donald suggests it, Avisynth is that kind of tool that deserves you spend little time testing! This the best way to learn more and more...

The new way, and the one that I prefer is:
Crop(left,top,-right,-bottom)
So, if you wanted to crop 1 pixel off the left side, 2 off the top, 3 off the right side, and 4 off the bottom:
Crop(1,2,-3,-4)
In your case:
Crop(8,0,-8,-8)
