View Full Version : PIO/UDMA detection in Win2k

My Win2k install appears to be rebelling against me. It has always auto-detected both my hard drives as UDMA, though as of this morning it "forgot" that my boot drive is UDMA-capable and detects it as PIO instead, and it's really starting to annoy me. The other hard drive (an older model) is still detected as UDMA, but that doesn't help much.

I tried upgrading the IDE controller from the mint Microsoft one to the Via 4in1 version that came with my AT7 board, but it still thinks the boot drive is PIO with the secondary as UDMA.

Any ideas? The last time this happened a reinstall fixed it, but I would really like to avoid that.

Never mind, I found a fix (should've looked a bit longer I guess).

This (http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&frame=right&th=dad10d8b732e3b24&seekm=9u6r450256m@enews4.newsguy.com) usenet post describes how to alter your registry to force Win2k into detecting your IDE channel features. Worked a treat. Probably works in XP too.
