Hi there.

I downloaded a Video (avi) which is encoded using the Microsoft MPEG4 V3 codec and I am unable to view it with WMP 8. I can hear the sound but I can't see the picture. On the contrary, the video opens and plays flawlessly in VDub and Real Player...

Is there any way to see the video in WMP 8 ?

I have downloaded a codec which is supposed to playback Microsoft MPEG4 V3 content but still no luck.

Help would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

MPEG-4 V3 is for use in WMV (ASF) only not in .avi

you need to get a cracked version of the codec, or change the fourcc code of the .avi to divx.

First of all, thanks for the reply.

Now, the file I got is definately an .avi and VDub recognizes the codec as MPEG-4 V3, so I guess it was created with a cracked version of the codec. Since it is against the rules to ask where to find the cracked version, can you please explain what you mean by "code of the .avi to divx." ? Re-encode the file to divx ? Cause I know this is the obvious solution but I don't wanna go there yet...

Thanks in advance.
