Has anyone experienced this. Can it be fixed?? I have tried varius players but to no avail.

If you try to play it from a CD, the problem should be the DMA not activated for CD by Windows XP.

If it's from the hard-disk, I don't know yet. Perhaps your configuration might help.

I also had this problem when I upgraded from 98 to XP (did this in 2k as well). After about a week of pulling my hair out, I determined it was my soundcard driver...XP didnt like it. (SB16 PCI, I even had the latest driver from Creative, go figure) To remedy the problem I removed the card and tried the onboard sound, to my amazement it worked like a charm.

My advice, make double sure you have all the latest driver updates for your hardware.
